The defrost timer in a Westinghouse fj383 freezer is typically located at the back of the unit, near the compressor. It may be behind a cover or housing that needs to be removed in order to access the timer. If you're unsure about locating the defrost timer or don't feel comfortable working on your freezer, it's best to consult the user manual or contact a professional technician for assistance.

SOURCE: Freezer defrosts too long.

Outside of HVACRH20 excellent advice, here a few stats about this model. The main control board will monitor the resistance of the evaporator thermistor. This is located near the top of the evaporator. This thermistor determines when the unit goes into and out of defrost. The bi-metal is redundant to the operation. It will terminate the defrost only if the thermistor fails. Check the values of the thermistor with the attached chart. Catriver..post back

SOURCE: Defrost timer

The above URL will take you to an exploded view of the controls. Look at number 23 which will be located behind toe plate below door on the left side. That is the defrost timer. Rotate the clutch head screw Clockwise SLOWLY until you hear a loud click. That is the defrost timer starting the defrost. If the unit restarts after 18-22 minutes and defrost does not take place you problem is most likely the defrost thermostat.

The unit was built bt LG. It is a computer controled unit and the timer is built into the main control board on back of the unit. However, the most likely cause of the broblem is the defrost terminator located on the evap on the upper right hand corner. Also, try unpugging the unit it will reset the computer board. You will also have to defrost the unit.

Yup, these timers have a tiny clock motor that can get lint on them, causing motor failure, should be simple replacement. Refrigerators in cold garages run more to regulate their temperature below 45 degrees.

Westinghouse fj383

ne of the most common reasons for the freezer to start failing is called "frost free failure." Ice can build up on the evaporator coils over time, and this ice builds up until it starts blocking the fan. The fan is responsible for circulating cold air throughout the freezer, so if it is blocked the freezer will not be able to freeze any food. You can usually check this by removing an access panel in the back of the freezer to inspect the coils. If ice is built up on the coils, a hairdryer can assist in defrosting them

Feel top of the compressor and tell me how hot after it has been running awhile. I need also that you advance the defrost timer=>. 216517400 Defrost Timer

clockwise slowly untill the compressor stops or starts. I need to make sure the timer is not stuck into defrost. I want you to leave the compressor off for up to 35 minutes. If the freezer compressor doesn't restart bt then simply again turn the timer clockwise slowly until it does and then stop turning. The defrost timer is location 23 in this photo HERE If you need to turn the defrost timer like this to restart the compressor then replace the defrost timer and this will resolve the freezing problem. If not we move to the defrost heater location 14 in the sme photo=> 216254600 Defrost Heater

Have a Westinghouse 'Silhouette' Frost Free 415

The reason your "freezing up in the freezer" is your unit is not automatically defrosting. That part you describe is your defrost control, or at least A defrost control. You said while cleaning the back, safe to assume you meant the outside back of the cabinet? Look for a square plug, either black or white, with the same 3-1plug as the defrost control. But, I doubt that is your current defrost control, maybe the original, but the unit cannot run without the defrost control plugged in. Now, your current defrost control maybe defunct, or your defrost heater element, or bi metal thermostat, the latter two are located in the freezer, one at the top, the other at the bottom of the evaporator coil. Test the continuity through both of these parts, the bi metal t stat at top of evaporator needs to be tested while it is cold. Disconnect one end of the heater element to test its continuity. If both of these test ok, replace your defrost control.

Hi my westinghouse freezer keeps turning itself off. there is a glowing red button and everything just defrosts and then it will turn itself on again, randomly. It is a freestyle 380litre with a 6 hour...

Freezers need a defrost timer to turn it off for short durations so that the coils are not so covered in ice that it can't transfer heat.  Make sure that you don't use an under-rated extension cord.  Check for any fans that may be blocked from turning.

Freezer doesnt freeze and red light at top came on

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

MAYTAG,AUTO DEFROST PROBLEM

The defrost timer is normally located in the area of the temperature controls. There is a clutch head knob on the timer which can be rotated clockwise very slowly until a click is heard. Wait 30 minutes and defrost should take place in that time period. If defrost does occur and the system does not restart cooling, rotate the knob more and you will hear a second click and the compressor should start .
If the system restarts in the cooling mode in 18-22 minutes the defrost timer is good and the problem is more than likely in the defrost heater circuit.
