He f20 (or fh) error code on a Whirlpool Front Load Washer is an indication of a water supply issue. To remove the f20 error code from the display panel, press Pause/Cancel 2 times. If that did not clear the error code, see below for what may be wrong

"F20" is a water inlet problem. This indicates that you have no water or insufficient water supply. What Whirlpool recommends to do is unplug the washer and check your water inlet screens to ensure they are not clogged, check the inlet hoses for kinks, and to make sure your taps are turned on (duh! I know it sounds stupid, but I've seen it before).

To check the water inlet screens you will need to turn off the water supply and disconnect the hoses where they connect to the back of the washer. The inlet screens are located inside the tap fittings and sometimes will collect with sediment and rust depending on your water source. Some hoses also have sediment screens. Check them as well if you have them. Use cotton swabs to clean the screens, thoroughly.

Checking the hoses and taps is self-explanatory. The water supply coming into the washer should be at least 10-25 psi. Insufficient water pressure can cause problems with slow fills and/or error codes due to insufficient pressure. If you haven't had any problems before, I would suspect dirty inlet screens and/or a inlet valve failure.

If you need to replace the water inlet valve, searspartsdirect.com carries the part. Just type in your model number in the Search menu and look for item #1 under the "Dispenser Parts" heading (part #8182862). The part runs about $52.00.

I hope this helps you. If you need further assistance, please post back with any questions/concerns you may have.

DOES IT DO THIS ON EVERY WASH OR SOMETIMES? IF SOMETIMES, CHECK LID SWITCH( THERE'S A LITTLE HOLE WHEN YOU OPEN THE LID, ON THE LID SHOULD HAVE A LITTLE PLASTIC PIECE THAT GOES IN THAT HOLE. THE SWITCH IS UNDER, INSIDE THAT HOLE. YOU CAN GET A PEN OR KEY TO SEE IF IT'S BROKEN.)

My Kenmore front load washer will not fill--it sounds like it is draining instead. The last load washed did not spin correctly and the clothes were very wet when cycle completed.

Washer Not Filling:

  • Door Not Closed and Locked
    • Front load washers won't fill if the door is not closed and locked. Listen for the door locking when starting a cycle, then pull on the door to make sure the door is closed and locked.
  • Delayed Start Feature
    • Some washers have a delay prior to filling, where the electronic control is checking the dispenser function. This is Normal.
  • Flashing Lights or Error Code on Display
    • When there is a filling issue, the washer may shut off and display one of the following codes: LF, LE, nF, IE, FH, E10 or F20.
    • If the washer is displaying one of the above error codes, then do the hard reset procedure listed below.

If the appliance is not accepting input from the control panel, follow the steps below to reset the control:

  1. Unplug or turn the circuit breaker off for 30 seconds.
  2. Plug the power cord into the wall outlet or turn the breaker back on and wait 30 seconds.
  3. Press the Pause / Cancel / Stop button twice to clear the display.
  4. Start a short cycle, to check operation of the appliance, by selecting a cycle and pressing and holding the start button until the appliance starts.

What does it mean if the washer is not draining and has a flashing f where the time shows?

I have the manual for this machine. Under "Code 21" it says the following:
"F21" (Drain Problem) Select STOP twice to cancel the cycle. Unplug washer or disconnect power. Check the following: Is the drain hose kinked? Is the drain hose frozen? Is the drain hose clogged? Is the drain hose more than 96" (2.4 m) above the floor? Plug in washer or reconnect power. Re-select cycle and press START. If the problem remains, call for service.
For "SUDS" code, the following:
"SUD" (Suds Routine) When excessive suds are detected, a suds routine automatically starts. This routine removes extra suds and assures proper rinsing of your garments. "SUD" is displayed during rinsing to inform you that Suds Routine was activated. Use only HE (High Efficiency) detergents.
Here is some more information that may help you as well:
"F" Codes other than F20, F21 and F22 Select STOP twice to cancel the cycle. Select DRAIN & SPIN if there is excessive water in the washer. Re-select cycle and press START. If the problem remains, call for service.
I hope this is of some help to you, Please rate and comment, Thank You
