I bought a Consew 227 Cylinder Arm Sewing Machine. It's acting up I think it's out of time.

Take it in for professional service to start you off on the right track. Timing sewing machines is a very complex and skilled job. They will clean, lubricate and replace the missing screws. This is a very unusual machine. I can't find a Service Manual for it, but I did find a User Manual

I have a consew 227 without reverse and can't tighten the bobin thread for the life of me. Do you think it might be out of timing? Please help thanks in advance.

THE SPRING THAT TIGHTENS AGAINST THE THREAD IS BENT OUTWARDS. IT MUST BE BENT INWARDS BY KEEPING THE TIP HELD UP WHILE YOU PUSH DOWN ON THE SPRING WITH A SMALL SCREWDRIVER. THIS WILL BEND THE METAL INWARDS. NOW, WHEN YOU TIGHTEN THE SPRING AGAINST THE THREAD IT SHOULD TIGHTEN AND LOOSEN AS YOU ADJUST IT. TO ADJUST YOU JUST NEED TO HANG THE BOBBIN FROM YOUR FINGER AND BOB IT UP AND DOWN. WHEN YOU ADJUST IT PROPERLY THE BOB WILL CAUSE THE THREAD TO EXTEND ONE INCH. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TIMING SO DON'T BE CONCERNED ABOUT THIS.
