Won't spin, makes clunking noise, drains fine

Kenmore 80 Series washer model 110, about 2 years old. Can't figure how to get console off to disassemble. Remover 2 screws for back, can't get plastic end caps off. Won't spin but drains and agitates. Coupler looks OK when viewed from bottom. Agitator stops when lid is lifted but works with lid closed. Spin doesn't work with lid open or closed but there is a clunking, grinding noise during spin cycle. My guess is coupler, lid switch and timer are OK. What could it be?

If it agitates fine , with normal noise , drains with lid closed , then the problem is probably the transmission .

My Kenmore 70 series is 18 years old. It will not

Hello. Since your machine is 18 years old and the agitation/spin is costly to repair I would definitely recommend a replacement washer.

Kenmore washing machine 80 Series 110 20802 990 Will not agitate or spin"

You need to replace the Kenmore Washer Lid Switch. I had the same problem so being lazy I would just push down on the washer's lid and it would push the lid switch further down. making the water drain. after a while I just replaced the lid switch.

Kenmore washer 80 series 110 model not spinning.

unless your washer is over 20 years old, then it wont have a belt. the temperature of the water wont have anything to do with it spinning or not.
need to know if it agitates or drains and just wont spin.
if it agitates but no spin or drain, then you have a bad lid switch.
if it wont agitate or spin, but will drain, then you have a broken drive coupling.

Kenmore 80 series makes noise in sping cycle

Its the transmission. Try to find a used appliance store in your town. Most save used parts and you should be able to pick up a used tranny for around 100 bucks.

Broken Washer

it could be the direct drive coupling that connects the motor to the transmission. fill it up with water and see if it will agitate, if it will NOT agitate then it is a good chance that this is the problem. 0404472.jpg

worse case scenario is the transmission is bad, but this is unlikely.
