I am NOT an expert on this problem as I have never changed languages. Language is typically in the TOOLS menu (Wrench) It you get to settings and English is greyed out then I am stuck. If you have many settings you want to keep please ignore what I say here. One workaround that MAY work is reset to factory settings. It could be one of your settings that keeps language setting greyed out. A reset makes the camera like you just purchased it new.

sometimes you cant fix it. and sometimes, (like other people say) you can by just hitting it. i have the coolpix L3 and its been broken 4 times now. but i found out that there was a small wire that was stripped. so maybe something like that happened to yours too. just send it in to the manufacturer and they should send you a new one for faulty products.
