1) Turn Off the power switch. Open the top cover completely by raising the handle. Remove the drum and the toner cartridge assemblies.
2) Lift the belt unit and then pull it out. Take the orange packing material out and discard it. Hold the green handle that is present in the waste toner box and remove it from the Brother MFC-9340CDW printer.
3) Unwrap the new waste toner box. Insert the belt unit back to the printer. Slide the toner cartridge assembly and the drum unit into the device. Make sure that the color on the toner cartridge and the color label is the same.
4) Repeat the above steps to install all the toner cartridges and drum unit. Close the top cover and turn On the printer.

On most color machines emptying the waste toner cartridge isn't an issue because the auger system dumps it into the waste toner. The brother machines before this a different way and have a cleaning blade in them. This blade wears out over time and needs to be replaced. Those waste toners last forever in that machine so your better off just replacing it. Other wise you probably are going to make a huge mess just to have problems once you get it back together.

Couple of things to try: - If you just emptied the waste cartridge then you have to take the bottle back out and clean the insides as well. The sensor sees the toner on the walls and still thinks it?s full. FYI as typical the manufacturer recommends replacing the bottle with a brand new one. - If not that then you may have toner covering the optical sensor. Try blowing the area where the waste bottle attaches to the printer with canned air. Let us know if you have any other questions and please don?t forget to rate this post.
SOURCE: waste toner tank
A few things can cause this.
The way the printer determines whether the waste tank is full is via 2 optical sensors, one on either side of the tank. You'll see a rounded bulge on one end of the tank - the sensors are on either side of that, when the tank is installed. Under normal operation, light passes through that and the printer reads it as meaning the tank is not full, until the tank fills far enough to fill that bulge, and thus block light and give a tank full reading.
If the tank gets too dirty, not enough light passes through and it gives false tank full readings. So the first thing to try is cleaning the tank with soap and water. Make sure that area is as clear as possible.
If that doesn't work, it has also been reported that the sensors themselves are unreliable. I am told Samsung will replace the sensor for free if it's been less than 3 years. If you call them, insist that it is the sensor that is the problem, or they will try to get you to replace the waste bin, at your expense, first: 1-800-726-7864.
Alternatively, you can remove the sensor from one side, and reattach it to the other side - putting the two sensors in contact so that they always read an empty waste tank. Do this at your own risk, however, as you will have to check the tank regularly and make sure it doesn't overflow. Doing this bypasses the sensor, so there is no longer any warning if your tank is overflowing.
Hope some of that helps you.

SOURCE: What is a waste toner box. what does it do and. BEWARE THIS NUMBER 1-800-975-0148 IS SPAM HERE
like the name suggest, it collects waste toner. Any toner that is left over from the print process is waste toner. Once the waste toner bottle is full, the printer will stop working until You have replaced it with an empty waste toner bottle. So in short, if it is telling u to get a new one, get one or the other option is to empty it yourself which is very messy and if u dont clean the bottle of all toner dust, may not even work.
