The wire colors reflect the station number the wire controls. In general, the colors start with station 1 with brown and move down the line of stations with red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet, continuing with gray at station 8

Have you programmed the new one with all the info for date and time? Did you set the zones for the days you want and watering times?

Reset the timer? This will sometimes resolve many problems.

Are you sure the conduit has 120Volt? Is the timer connected to single breaker?
Or is circuit 240V? Timer connected to double breaker.

What do you mean green wire to negative?

What else is on the conduit circuit?
Motors, fluorescent lights, and other electronics can interfere with electronic timers.
Run extension cord to timer from another electrical source and see if problem continues.

Do not connect voltage directly to COM and Pump terminals... these terminals have their own 24Volt AC output when timer turns ON. When timer turns on, the 24V flows to Relay. This action will cause electro-magnet to pull two points together, and that will turn on the pump.
Same with the sensor terminals. Do not connect power to rain sensor terminals. The rain sensor plugs into outlet, and produces it's own 24V ac output. So when rain sensor activates, this cuts power to timer, and then timer will automatically bypass the watering schedule until rain sensor again resumes power output to timer.

Orbit Problems

Most likely timer is not plugged in or outlet has no power. Should display a plug with a circle around it with a line through it. If not. Check the wiring be sure the same color wire used for Common in the timer is used in the field. Should have 1 wire from each valve connected to it.
