Keep hitting the back button on your remote. You will eventually get back to the main screen. Also to make things easier to use you should look into installing a kodi build. Check the link below for the top kodi builds to install on your android box. Theres also full tutorials with screenshots and youtube videos as well.
It must be something to do with your build that you are using. Try to change your build to a better kodi build 19 Best Kodi Builds To Experience The Colors Of Kodi . And make sure you keep a backup of your original Kodi if you do not find any of the build upto your taste.
Go to you tube and search for ares wizard for the url to add the app and also get complete kodi setup wizard from google play store app to use for removing build and kodi file I believe is about aprox 125 meg. You also want the latest kodi of either 16.1 or 17.4 for more memory box. The kodi app will tell you if it is available to be used on the box you have. If 17.4 can be used on your box. If it says that you can not use it then you go with the 16.1 which is for boxes with only 1 gig of memory for program. There is many tutorials for most any kodi problem
Ok I figure you have a 1g 8g memory box.You may have a full memory and then the box will not work. First I recommend loading the Complete kodi setup wizard which is on google play store. With this program you can clear build and start over and when finished you can also back-up the build in the limited memory box. Then you will not have to start from scratch. I suggest using Kodi no limits magic build as I have found it to be most complete build. There are many tutorials on you tube to help do this step by step. They have been doing updates about every 2 weeks since there has been a lot of changes.
First of all you should be using 17.4 and sounds like a buffering problem. There are many tutorials on you yube that can walk you thru. There is also something in ares wizard that after opening program then go to tweaks and follow instrustions there.
