Take the bobbin out and check for dirt or broken thread in the hole.

  • Take the side plate off and also take the needle plate off
  • Take the presser foot off, and put a new needle in the machine.
  • Make sure that the needle is in the lowest position and look at the needle bar for the two timing lines. Locate the top line.
  • Then, turn the handwheel toward you until the top line is where the bottom line was. Note: At this point, the tip of the hook should be directly in the scarf of the needle.

SOURCE: How do you adjust the stitch length on Consew 226 R-1?

if it is like the other industrial machines I've used, here is the general principle:

On the machine there is a button with no label. Hold button while turning the handwheel toward you. When you feel the button depressl you can adjust the length. Hold the button in the machine and crank the hand wheel back to decrease the length of ths titch and foward to increase it. I usually put a notch on the fly wheel for my standard length with some nailpolish. Release the button and sew to test the length.

SOURCE: looking at a used consew 226 and found a new 226

Go to www.consew.com. Either send an email or call them. They're very responsive to questions.
I have a 226R-1, my second one. Both of mine were built in Japan and are/were at least 2- - 30 years old. I think current models are made in China. Serial numbers are under the bed on the front side of the bed.

SOURCE: Consew 226 breaking needles

I posted an answer to this a couple days ago. If the hook's hitting the needle you need to move it away from the needle. There's a small screw in the bottom of the machine that holds the hook mechanism in place. You need to loosen the screw and gently tap the assembly away from the needle. The hook should just pick up the looped thread as the needle bar rises. You can go to www.consew.com and download a pdf file showing the parts of the machine, also an owners manual. You have to click on the 224 machine. The manual's the same for 224, 225, 226. Or you can click on the 226R-3 - that's the same, too.

My needle is not picking up the bobbin thread

Take it to a service centre. Setting sewing machine timing is a job for a professional. It has to be exact to within half a millimeter and also the correct torque on the screws so they don't slip, but not strip the screw threads.

I recently moved and can't find the belt to my Consew 226. Having problems finding a replacement. Can you help!

Go to www.consew.com and download the parts list for the 224 Consew. It's the same as the 226 for parts. Or, go to www.diamondneedle.com. They have nearly every part you're likely to need. I got bobbin case screws, a hook, some metal reusable bobbins, and some needles, all at very reasonable prices.

Cosew(Cutline )226 not picking up thread

could be the set screw holding the hook in position wasn't tightened fully and the hook shaft slipped into the proper position, but out of timing. Look to see if the hook is picking up the thread at the very bottom of the needle thrust. That is, just when the needle bar is about to rise, the hook point should snag the thread. If it doesn't then the timing is off - or the hook has to be turned to the proper place and the set screw tightened.
