My husband is running our portable Maytag Air Conditioner on Fan Only when the weather allows. Is this bad for the unit, and doesn't it use more electricity than running a box fan?

Hi, I have an amana ap125hd portable air conditioner and for some reason is doesn't produce cold air anymore. Then fan blows and the compressor kicks in, but to no avail, no cold air. I took the unit...

replace it,most likely the freon leaked out,if the compressor is running and the fan is blowing but not getting cold most likely you have a leak in the sealed system.

MY MAINE FAN THAT COOLS UNIT WILL NOT START BY ITSELF. I HAVE TO SPIN FAN BEFORE IT WILL RUN THEN ITS OK TILL I HAVE TO RESTART UNIT

Hello, most likely you have a bad run capacitor which is not allowing the motor to start. Replacing the capacitor will fix the problem

Maytag air conditioner turns on but fan does not blow. When I put the unit to fan only, I hear the hum of the fan, but no air coming out.

Hi,
Either the capcitor has gone bad for the fan motor or the motor has siezed up or gone bad... you cold try to replace the cap. first and move on from there....

Exhaust fan running slow

sounds like the compressor is turning off cause of high pressure. check the coil that the exhaust hose connects to, if dirty clean it. if the fan is not blowing enough air threw the coil the unit will build up high side pressure and cut out, but will turn back on when pressure drops. if that dont help, maybe the fan motor is bad or needs taken apart and oiled.

Cooling

Is the fan blowing. If so your compressor is probably the source. If the fan isn't blowing you might have a bad fan motor

Weather king air conditioner

Sounds like you have bad bearings in motor if compressor continues to run.

Fan not blowing

Even when the power is off at the unit outside the thermostat will supply power to the contactor of the outside unit. This may give a hum or buzz as you stated. If when the power is on to the outside unit the fan tries to start but only hums the motor may be bad. Does the compressor start and run?

Excessive water draining from portable A/C

It appears that you have changed the location of the unit, I mean have you relocated to an area whwre the humidity is high, usuallly coastal areas have high humidity. If not is there a door that is being constantly left open causing a lot of fresh high humidity air into the room
