My speakers wont work suddenly unless I am using my headphones

I was listening to music on my computer and then I needed to put in plugged in headphones to listen to it. Now the speakers on my computer no longer make any sounds, and I can only listen to it if I use headphones. This is for all sounds, including videos, music, etc.. I have checked all the files for sound and speakers and they all say the speakers are working and it shows the volume moving up and down when sound is playing but I can still only hear it if I use my headphones????

Make sure in the volume mixer that it is using the right sound device. You most likely have it set to the wrong device output. When you plugged in the headphones in kinda automatically switches, but to use the speakers again you have to do it manually. Just hook up a cheap av receiver to your computer and use this headphone input instead. a 100$ 5.1 av receiver beats any pc speaker system.

Weird Headphone problem - vocals disappeared

The most likely explanation is that the ground connection of the headphone jack has become disconnected. This causes the mp3 headphones themselves to subtract the two channels from each other in a hardware kind of way. Again, I could explain this in more detail but I also happen to have years of experience with audio hardware, so you can just trust me on this smile.gif Try gently nudging your headphone plug to see if you can't get normal sound. If you can, it's certainly a bad contact. I wouldn't say this is a "normal" type of failure for an audio player, but it's certainly not uncommon.

Built in speakers not working

Are you using external speakers? or internal?

EXTERNAL SPEAKERS: If your are plugging speakers into your headphone jack and they dont play, but you plug headphones into the same port and they work fine.. then it is the external speakers.

INTERNAL SPEAKERS: But if you are using the speakers in the laptop, then your speakers are probably bad. Try some software settings, but probly just bad speakers. Could also be that the speaker cord inside the laptop came unplugged from the motherboard. In which case you would have to take the laptop apart and plug it back into the motherboard.

Good Luck.

My laptops speakers stopped working

Have you tried a pair of headphones to see if they work?
Is the sound ouput muted? (a lot of laptops have a physical button to
do this...

check to see if the laptop is muted. Also, check the
volume control to see if everything is up where it should be, including
Speaker Out.

If I've got this all straight, the only thing that it can be is an
issue with the plug on the speakers and the jack on the laptop.

Obviously the computer is putting out sound to the headphone jack as
evidenced by your ability to listen through headphones. The speakers
work on another computer. So, it has to be something specific about
the Speakers on this laptop. Plug/Jack problem is the only thing that
comes to mind.

First things First!
1) check on other speakers to see if your iPod work fine
2) check connector for loosing electric connectivity.
3) check with your headphones to see if your iPod play music well.
4) Check, power on the computer spk. you got. or the input that is working right.
Good Luck
