Sounds as if your motor is defective. It has an internal thermal switch which cuts the motor off before it gets too hot. After it cools, the switch makes up and the unit is able to run again.

Whirlpool dryer bad heating element AGAIN

Hi Warren Fink
Try this solution to your problem

A vent clogged with lint can cause the dryer to overheat.
Right after replacing a dryer element, always run the dryer on air fluff/no heat, and go outside to verify there's plenty of air coming out your vent system.
If the vent's clogged, that new element can burn out very quickly.

Dryer still runs it just isn't getting warm

The heating element is wired in series with a thermal cut-off and a high-limit thermostat both located on the heater housing. The thermal cut-off blows open when the high-limit thermostat fails to cycle off in order to regulate the heating element temperature. When the thermal cut-off is blown, power to the element is cut-off and the dryer will not heat. Replacing both thermal cut-off and the high-limit thermostat if the former is indeed blown. Dryer wont heat

The problem is likely the thermal cut-off and/or the high-limit thermostat if the dryer runs but doesn't heat. Verify this by bypassing the thermal cut-off and the high-limit thermostat. Click on the link below for the detailed troubleshooting.

When I turn it on it will run for a short time and cut off.Like it is over heating when it cools down about 1 hour latter I can contuine drying intill it does it again

Good day,
There is a thermal device in the motor that will shut it off it it gets too hot. Once cooled down, it will restart.
Replacing the motor seems to be your only option.

If you want to replace it yourself, here is an excellent tutorial.
If the hyperlink fails to work, just copy and paste it into the address bar of your browser. Yes, it's a Whirlpool product.
Appliance parts houses that sell Whirlpool parts will have the correct motor.

sounds like your "Drum Glides" need replacing, open the door and cheat the door interlock and you should be able to hear it closer by bottom of drum by lint filter if yours is located there depending on model
