It's possible that the compressor in your kegerator is shot and will need to be replaced. However, there are a few other things you can check before determining that the compressor is the issue.

  1. Check the power supply: Make sure the kegerator is properly plugged in and that the outlet has power.
  2. Check the thermostat: Ensure that the thermostat is set to the appropriate temperature. If it is set too high, the compressor will not turn on.
  3. Check the compressor overload protector: The overload protector may have tripped, check to see if it is tripped and reset it if necessary.
  4. Check the compressor's capacitors: They could be damaged and need replacing.
  5. Check the evaporator fan motor: If the evaporator fan motor is not functioning properly, it could cause the compressor not to turn on.
  6. Check the 3 in 1 starter: Make sure the 3 in 1 starter is working properly, it could be defective.
  7. Check the wiring: Make sure all the wiring is properly connected and not loose.
If you have tried all above steps and the problem persists, it may be best to contact a professional or the manufacturer for further assistance. It could be the compressor, but it's better to confirm that before replacing it, as it's a costly repair.

SOURCE: Need to Install a Supco 3 n 1 start capacitor

3 in 1 starters like the supco that you have pictured can and will cause premature failure of your compressor. newer compressors are not designed to handle the start up current the 3-n-1 provides. I reccomend replaing wiht an original oem part the part number is 8201786. If you still want to use the hard start use the 410 model obviously hook up the red white and blak wires to the compressor the 2 left over leads will connect to the 2 original wires that come in to the compressor I beleive they are red and white. polarity does not matter. good luck Peyton

SOURCE: Compressor problem, installing the Supco 3-in-1 Relay

Hi, If the 3 posts are top center and bottom right left, the black wire goes top the top center post. The red wire will go to the bottom right and the white goes to bottom left.
If the posts are bottom center and top right left, the black goes on bottom center and the red goes top left. The white goes top right.
If you do not see a capacitor, disregaurd the wires in the 3-1
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

electrician do one thing, electricity. If the unit cools, the compressor is running. a power outage should not put the compressor in a "Weaken" state. I would check the starting components. don't overlook your surge protector causing a voltage drop. try running the unit without the protector.
let me know if I can be of any further help.

SOURCE: Have 5 year old HAIER

You shouldn't need a hard start relay for one just 5 years old. The compressor and complete sealed system is usually covered by a 5 year warranty. If you hear no click from the compressor starter relay you need to verify that you're getting power to it when you plug it in. You may just need to replace the starter relay and not the kit. If your starter looks or smells burnt or if it rattles when you shake it it's bad.

SOURCE: Supco wiring an old freezer. Orange wire?

Was the orange wire on a switched live on the old compressor connections? It may come on when the compressor goes off in that case. If not, recheck the schematic for the other end of the heater. If it has a neutral, join the orange to the live feed to the supco. If it has a live, leave the orange on the neutral of the supco.

Amana ARB1917CSR 18.5 Cu. Ft. Plus Refrigerator. What is the HP of my compressor, which Supco relay and run capacitor?

What tends to happen is that service techs have certain common generic parts in their van, and rather than ordering a part to fit and have a return visit, they fit what they have.

Parts seem to be readily available. The compressor is listed but no HP Specs. The bottom show another model and that R134A (1/4HP) is different to R134 (1/5 HP).

Emerson model#CR519B. The unit just stopped working. If plugged in a motor runs for about 8 seconds and clicks off; about a minute later it repeats. Help

I had the same problem with a small wine cooler. It happened to me twice in 6 years. Both times I had to replace the starter relay.

I couldn't find any repair facilities willing to work on these small wine coolers or refrigerators, probably because the bill would be more than the used fridge is worth. If you feel confident around a volt/ohm meter and electricity, you could learn how to test this and maybe fix it yourself.

You shouldn't do any of this if you aren't familiar with using a Volt/Ohm meter and can safely and confidently work around electricity.:

  1. Unplug the fridge
  2. I first tested the compressor with an Ohm Meter (see how with youtube video below or by reading how at Davesrepair.com). It was good, but it kept starting and stopping within a few seconds.
  3. Basically my starter capacitor/relay wasn't working. It supplies temporary starting voltage to the starter relay in the compressor, then cuts off to allow the motor to run.
  4. I bought a Supco 3-in-1 on Amazon for less than $13 and hooked it up according to the supplied instructions. It lasted about 3 years.
Of course, the factory recommended repair is to buy the original replacement relay, but it will be more costly and harder to find.

I bought a Supco 3 in 1 Hard Start relay sized for the HP on my compressor. Mine was the Supco RCO810 (see link below).

NOTE: Before I replaced the starter relay and overload protection with a Supco 3 in 1, I learned how to test the compressor with a Volt/Ohm meter. If you don't have a meter, you can buy them online or inexpensive to free with a coupon at Harbor Freight.

TDD 2 Kegerator clicking and not cooling?

It's extremely rare that the compressor will be any good. Usually replacing the start relay does nothing on these small units. If you know how to use a multi-meter and are any good at wiring the cheapest way to go is to get what is called a 3-in-1 start kit at a HVAC wholesaler. You need to know the model of the compressor and/or the horsepower to get the right one. I would recommend getting a service tech to look it over though. Most likely the compressor is locked up.

Not cooling either side. compressor not running

Most likely you will need a Supco 3 in 1. It's a capasitor, relay and overload assy. You can buy the exact replacment at http://www.partselect.com/MultiModels.aspx?ModelNum=mzd2766&searchTerm=img_53200&RefineSearch=0&imgMfg=Maytag parts #4 and #6. They cost a total of $83.35 plus shipping. If you go with a Supco 3 in 1 like I have suggested you can find it at http://www.appliancepartsonline.net/index.php?target=products&product_id=207 for $21.95. It's very easy to install. It only has 3 wires that go on the compressor and two that you connect the power to. The instruction are on the part and very easy to understand. The 3 in 1 is also a much stronger part and will out last the factory part by a long shot. Good luck.

Yes replacing the relay may fix the problem. You want to replace all the start parts. Overload, relay, and capacitor if one is present. Your unit is probably 1/3 horse power or less. You may be able to install a universal 3N1 starter from Supco, rated at 1/4 -1/3 H.P. If new start gear does not fix the problem you may need a new compressor.
