Sony TC-K690 3-head cassette deck with new belts & pinch roller tires doesn't play.

Eject, FF & REW works. Aligned the gears correctly. Head rises upon play & goes back down without playing at all. Please help. Thank you!

Thanks Wellington! The leaf switches are ok. I traced the fault to a suspect fusible resistor (R736) located near the power supply. Resistance is down to 1.xx ohms instead of the factory specified 2.2 ohms. I'll post any result as soon as I receive, install & test the replacement part.

This decks need a feedback from different sensors and switches, if something doesn't check, it aborts right away.
Check if all the mechanical switches are indeed working, if the circuits that read that switch are working, etc.

SOURCE: TEAC V770 3head tape deck.

Hi saabangerman

The unit sounds like it has a take up clutch or takeup idler problem. Check all the drive assemblies in the unit. Remove the cover from the front of the transport inside the cassette well, and check the condition of the idlers and reel base drives. The counter belt can also gatherup and prevent the takeup reel from working correctly, or fire the auto stop mechanism preventing it from playing, although that sounds to be ok in this case as the unit will FF and REW ok. The takeup drive is supplied by a different drive idler as it requires much lower and more controlled torque. This unit was always considered to be a great tape deck and is well worth a bit of attention for restoration. You can get a new belt kit for $19.00 from here

The deck will need new belts and idler drives cleaned and serviced, and perhaps some idler tyres replaced. You can get a belt kit from these guys. replacing them is not such a difficult job if you have some mechanical aptitude. Just take it slowly, and focus on getting the transport out of the unit.

SOURCE: Cassette Tape stuck

The problem here is that the unit is stuck in a partial position. The "reset" by unplugging and plugging back in usually causes the unit to reset to a known position. If there is no activity (no motor sound), it will need to be opened up and reset manually. If you hear the motor running for a short period, it is attempting to reset, but the belt is most likely worn or broken. These units are relatively simple, but a bit tricky to dis-assemble. This repair should not require anything other than a belt or 2. Figure on $3-$10 for parts plus the local labor rate for the repair.

I had the same problem. You probably have to replace the rubber belts.

I do not know the model and many models have a different drive but from the first guess I would say the Capstan belt is either stretched, broken or liquified. You need a new belt.
I could be more helpful with a brand and model number.

Will not reverse play on deck 2-just goes very fast on this

This condition, regardless of which way the tape is moving, is caused by the failure of a rubber pinch-roller to trap the tape between capstan and the passive roller. The speed is then caused by the part of the drive driven by a small belt and a clutch that should only keep a small amount of tension on the tape in ensure clean rewinding of the tape after it has passed the head.
Lubricant in part of the transport's moving parts or a dried-out rubber roller may be causing this.If you want to try to clean the pinch roller, don't use alcohol since this can further harden the robber.Use a clean fiber-free cloth or paper towel wetted with a LITTLE naphtha and turn the roller on the wetted area. If you get some dark smudging, the treatment is working.

Sony tc-wr535 won't eject. Tape stuck. Won't play cassette on either deck A or B .makes noises but won't FF or play, gets stuck and wont eject. Will belt conditioner work? What do I use?

The problem, according to messages on your site, is that the belts are old and have stretched. There is a great step by step tutorial on www.Instructables.com with pictures and all. Parts are not too hard to find on search engine. Looks like less than $25 to fix.

Kenwood Dual Cassette deck KX-97CW runs fast

Sometimes this is due to the tape not being pinched between the capstan and the rubber roller.

Make sure there is no slack in the tape when you put it in the deck. See if you can observe the tape going down over the capstan on the correct side.

If this isn't the problem, then the mechanism that engages the capstan roller may not to be working. In most cases, the rubber roller is mounted on the same mechanism that moves the record-play head against the tape. If this mechanism isn't moving, that would cause the problems you describe.

Try pushing the eject button while pusshing the power button. Mine was doing the same and that is how I was able to eject the tape.
Good luck

NAKAMICHI CASSETTE DECK 1 NOT PLAYING?

it has probably thrown the capstan belt and will require a new belt fitted. the transport relies on capstan rotation to engage play. a separate reel motor operates ff/rew and takeup funtions
