My sirius radio works well in the early a.m., but in the afternoon/evening the reception is horrible. I'm very disappointed.

The 2012 Dodge Caliber had a Sirius radio instead of XM - BUT - you will have to check if it has a "FAST" or a "SLOW" "BUSS SPEED" - that is very important that the radio you replace it with has the correct buss speed. Sirius will only work a little while longer as they are eventually going to phase out their overhead satellites for a geostationary satellite like XM. XM has the better sound than Sirius - if you can receive them. If you can't find a factory replacement from 2012, then BestBuy still sells a Stratus Sirius radio - and you can probably even fish-out the antenna wire that you already have for use with the plug and play add-on Status. The "hard wired" version that you speak of apparently only refers to the power supply.Do you have a seperate display for the Sirius unit? Now, you failed to mention the type of radio (factory or aftermarket); so, if you have to use an "empty radio station" then you have an FM modulator. This modulator could wired or wireless. The wired version interrupts the vehicle antenna wire and the station on said modulator is usually preset to either 88.1, 88.3,88.7, or 89.1. There is no need to power this modulator up, it comes on when then Sirius comes on. One way to check for power is to turn on the Sirius unit and tune your radio to an occupied Fm station. Wait a few seconds and listen to the reception. Turn off the Sirius unit, the reception should improve for the occupied station. If it is a wireless FM modulator it also has preset stations that you can change but, extending the wieless antenna will greatly improve your reception of the Sirius stations.

They make a special antenna that mounts on the the mirror mount for the big rigs. You need a big antenna, as the regular one isn't going to work very well on a big rig. Many full service truck stop stores have the big rig antennas. Try that first. You might have better luck with XM than Sirius too,

Yes you can my brother bought one of those after market radios and you can run it on three different channels you need to find one that has nothing on it including hiss. look in the book and it will tell you the different channels. Also Be sure you have the reciever on the dash in the center at the top for best reception or lower it tothe middle to find the best reception you can get. it is important to get it in the right place for it to work.

Check your antenna wire to see if it is spliced or cut. If you do not recognize a problem still you can usually get very good help from calling Sirius. They have been good about trouble-shooting and repairs.

I have a 3 year old Sportster 2 replay unit that worked perfect until 1 month ago. I posted my problem on this website a day before you did with this same problem. I googled to no end and even spoke to Sirius who wasn't willing to replace my unit at no charge since it was out of warranty. I found an unusual solution on the internet that worked for me. I place my receiver in the freezer for at least 20 minutes (this was recommended by a guy somewhere on the internet with the same problem). I have actually left it in freezer overnight too. This has solved my problem. It is the craziest thing but I thought I would try it before I resorted to replacing all my accessories and receiver since Sirius was less than cooperative with the issue. Anyway, hope this helps.

satellite reception problem

This unit looses reception all of the time even with the antenna headphones placed right next to my cars antenna.
You need the car or home kit or else you will suffer many drop outs "aquiring signal".
