SOURCE: How to tighten the hinges on a slow close toilet seat?

You don't want to overtighten since you could crack the porcelain. Are your rubber washers in good shape? This will help. You should be able to do this w/out doing any damage.

SOURCE: slow closing toilet seat not working

It needs a new air shock on it. You might be able to take the old one apart and fix it but replacement would be best.

Bemis whisper close toilet seat stopped being quiet, lid slams

This is probably a friction hinge. The slow closing feature is a result of friction within the hinge. So it sounds like the hinge has worn to the point of the friction being reduced. Another possibility is that some kind of lubricating fluid entered the hinge. If so, perhaps it will regain friction with time. Most likely the seat needs to be replaced.

The paint on the forward side of the toilet seat has the paint wearing off, quickly! the paint seams soft and can be rubbed right off What would be eating away the paint. It is a fairly new seat...

I have been a plumber for over 30 years. My advice is to throw that seat away
and buy a new seat made by "Bemis". They are the best I have ever seen.

Hope this helps.
