SOURCE: Loose freezer door handle

Maytag uses two types of door handle mounts. first look at the bottom side of door handle to see if there are tiny set screws. If there is you might just have to tighten them with an allen wrench. If it doesn't you need to grasp the handle firmly and pull it towards your left, sometimes they can be a little stubburn and require a light wrap with a rubber mallet. This will remove the handle. In this case there will be a clip inside the handle end, check to see if it is bent or if the handle itself is cracked, although I have seen some where the handle mount has become loose and that can be tighted by turning clockwise.

SOURCE: Broken door latch on Model 63679 Kenmore Elite Microwave.

You have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

You can find helpful exploded views by entering your full Kenmore model number at the Sears parts site.

A full Sears/Kenmore model number has 3 digits, a dot, then 8 more digits, such as ###.########

Please be aware that you may have a broken spring mounting tab on the inner door panel.

In such cases, the best way to fix that is to drill a hole in the remaining material, insert the spring, then add a dab of epoxy where they spring attaches to the panel.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: my over the oven model 665.61629100 kenmore has cracked door

The outer door frame CAN be replaced if you like. You can view an exploded view diagram at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and locate item 10 under the "Door" parts listing. The part comes in various colors so make sure you select the correct one.

The door can be easily removed by opening it all the way and lifting straight up at the hinges. The door will come off the hinge pins and can be laid on a flat surface for easier access. Place a layer of towels under the door to prevent damage to the door.

You will need to remove the door handle to get the outer door frame off. To access the door handle mounting screws on MOST microwave ovens, you have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. You can use a small screwdriver to carefully pry the plastic up and work your way slowly around the perimiter of the glass. Most microwave ovens also have grooves in the panel that you can insert the screwdriver into. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that prevents harmful microwaves from potentially harming the consumer. If you break the glass, you may need to purchase a new door.

The door handle screws are located behind the inner panel. Remove the door handle and and locate any screws that may be securing the outer door (front) frame in place. Once you install the new outer door frame, re-install the door handle and carefully re-insert the inner door panel. Gradually work your way around the perimeter of the door glass and make sure it snaps back into place.

If you have questions about this repair, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

To answer your initial question, the microwave should continue to be safe to use as long as the inner door seal and door glass are intact. Make absolutely sure you reinstall the door components back together properly. Not doing so will render the oven unsafe to use. Refer to the web site I provided as a reference for how the door components go back together.

NOTE: This part is listed a bit cheaper at appliancepartspros.com. Use the part number from the first website I mentioned as your search criteria.

SOURCE: Kenmore gas range model 790 door glass shattered, handle problem

We have suffered the same problem for the past 3 yrs. We first had the door all fall apart and I screwed it back together thinking that someone missed tightening a screw. Then shortly after the 1 yr warranty was up it happened again. Sears would not help, first told me that there was a recall, then not. After 6 departments and 12 people later they sent me on to whirl pool the manufacturer who said "see sears".
Anyways since we are abandoned by Sears who we trusted (as parents did) we are on our own, here is how I solved it.
After several times of the screw popping out and chipping and stripping the treads in the handle; I too switched out the bottom handle with the top but now at 3yrs old both handles had the threads stripped and chipped and the oven door fell apart during Thanksgiving dinner with the mother law 2009.
The next step for me after another round with Sears with no results (except they said it was common problem) and a letters to Att. Gen. (keep the letters flowing as they are hearing) was to go to the hardware store. I was able to find (not at the main hardware stores, had to go to mom/pa old fashion hardware store) a packet of #10 Sheet metal screws (Stainless steel) 2 1/2" long and a flat washer. This worked. Cost $1.18. Note it does strip the factory threads, so if your present threads are not too bad you may not want do it. You need the washer because the 2 1/2" is slightly too long. 2 1/4" would be a better length but I could not find them.
I would think Sears would want to avoid the bad press by sending all of us $1.18 worth of hardware out. Sears offered to sell me new handles, but I was not about to give them any more of my $.
And I agree it is a very stupid design to have to small handle (where the most stress is) holding the door/glass together.
Note if glass breaks, do not mess around, buy the proper part to go back in.

Kenmore Elite smartheat QuietPak 4: Dryer door frequently comes unlatched, multiple times, at beginning of a dry cycle. Is there an adjustment that will catch the door clasp stronger?

Yes, there are a few things you can check and adjust to ensure the door latch on your Kenmore Elite SmartHeat QuietPak 4 dryer is working properly:
  1. Check the door catch and strike plate: Make sure the door catch is properly aligned with the strike plate, which is the metal piece on the dryer frame that the door latch engages with. If they are not aligned, adjust the catch or strike plate until they are in proper alignment.
  2. Inspect the door latch: Check the door latch for any damage or wear. If the latch is damaged or worn, it may not catch properly. If the latch is damaged, it may need to be replaced.
  3. Check the door hinge: Make sure the door hinge is tight and secure. If the hinge is loose, the door may not close properly, causing the latch to disengage.
  4. Adjust the door catch tension: There may be an adjustment on the door catch to increase the tension. Check your dryer's user manual for instructions on how to adjust the tension on the door catch.
  5. Clean the door latch and strike plate: Over time, lint and debris can accumulate on the door latch and strike plate, preventing the latch from catching properly. Use a soft brush or cloth to clean the latch and strike plate.
If these steps do not solve the issue, it may be best to contact a professional appliance repair service for further assistance.

Oven door latch error code. The oven door latched but the control board did not receive a signal that the door was latched.

Why won't the door latch?

Make sure the door is not hitting the sides of your cabinet. Also make sure it is not hitting the screws that hold the mounting tabs (located at the top of your dishwasher) to your counter-top. If that's okay, try removing the racks and see if the door will close then. If still no, then you might have a broken latch or bent or broken hinges.

My son fell on the dishwasher door and bent it down to the floor, is there any way to tighten it back up so the door sits leval for easy loading?

No, it's not springs that will fix your problem, but will probably require new door hinges, and maybe even a whole new door. There is a possibility that the frame may be bent too, in which case, it might be cheaper to buy a new dishwasher. Sorry!

The door pops open after about 10 seconds. We have replaced the sensor that is located on the upper left inside of the door, to no avail. Any ideas? Also, I am not sure if this is the model #..

either the hinges have gotten bent from too much weight being put onto the door when it was open or your door latch might be broken, see if the white plastic door closer on the top inside of the door catches onto the gold colored latch that is at the top part of the dryer door opening, if either one of these are damaged you would replace both as they come as a kit. here is a parts listing:

Kemmore elite 3t has error code f and will not drain

Check your door when it closes, it should hit a push-in button above that door latch, at times I have seen the door hinge bent down just some, causing the door not to strike that button dead on.

If thats fine, then its likely to be the door latch assembly or the CCU board bad.

The code is a door lock error!

My child stepped on the open dishwasher door. now it won't close. is this something i can fix?

I had this exact same story with my new Whirlpool dishwasher. My daughter fell on the open dishwasher door and afterwards it wouldn't latch closed. After researching online, I learned that 90% of the time it's bent door hinges. At $$130 each, $260 total, I didn't want to replace the hinges. So I removed the hinges, took them downstairs to my shop, put them in the vise and straightened them back with a hammer. Just took a few good, solid hits on each hinge and they were straight again. I installed them back onto the dishwasher and it worked like a charm! Door latches just fine.

My daughter fell on the dishwasher door and now it won't close all the way!

It sounds like the door is distorted or buckled.I'm afraid you may need a new door if it cant be straightened. Also make sure the basket isnt stopping the door from closing.

My door will not shut

Is the latch and strike still intact ? If it is, you should hear or feel a distinct "click" when closing the door. if that is ok but the door simply won't stay latched, I'd suspect a bent door or hinge assembly. if it isn't ok, you can get a latch and strike in a kit #279570, the most common kit for kenmore/whirlpool dryers over the past 30-35yrs. or so. It will also work in most other makes too. your unit may also have a "spare" latch built into it for door reversal, but not the "strike". you may be able to straighten the door or hinge by removing the door and examining what's bent and correct it. either way, you need to first identify what is bent/or out of alignment.

hope that helps

good luck.

Door won't close. The door was stuck and now it won't close tight.

If you used force to push it shut when it was stuck open, then you may have bent a hinge. Another possibility is that something fell into the hinge mechanism on one side and is jamming it.

On the other hand, if it was stuck shut, you could have a problem with the door latch.
