Cannot find jammed paper. How do I remove print head of Brother MFC-620CN? Removing back cover does not reveal any jammed paper.

MFC620CN...Printer is three years old. It was working perfectly at tme of this "paper jam". There was certainly a jam and I removed what I thought was all the paper. How can I remove the print-head to ensure there is nothing jamming? Can I obtain (download( a workshop manual or the necessary part of a manual which shows a picture or pictures of this part of the printer and how to remove the print-head?

  • john_lapthor Aug 07, 2009

Details for removing prin t-head too complicated. What about manual illustrations?

  • john_lapthor Aug 07, 2009

What front cover? The scanner cover is the only one that pulls open. The paper tray is at the front of the machine. There is no paper visible either from the top of the machine or from the rear. Also I cannot get the removable section at the rear of the machine back on again. An illustration (picture) would assist.

Thanks for your information. I have contacted a "repairer." I canpurchase a brand new HP multi-purpose printer for $93. The repairer wants the same amount to call at my residence. I have decided to purchase a new one. John Lapthorne.

To remove the head and clean would require a near dis assembly of printer.

in short, open the lid as if to replace ink, unclip the bottom of the lid leg and swing open.leave ink in.

remove 4 screws and remove plastic clips to wires. disconnect wires there are 4 or 5 in total. now carefully unhook the lid from main unit, take your time.

after separating 2 parts.

unclip plastic cover on head, remove print head cable wire from head, unclip silver clip that hold ink hoses,
undo top (in relation to head) slide bar, carefully remove head..
lift from no bar side first.

Hi,

U can do the below steps but it will best if u call an engineer to the job:-
You see the access door in the back where you would remove a jam? That is the back side of the fuser unit. You'll have to take the scanner top off and the other back panels to unplug the scanner and controls....the sides, the laser assembly, other things... and finally you'll have to disassemble the fuser in order to remove it and get access to the sensor arm.
Just look and remember where all the parts go

You can't just remove the broken sensor arm. The printer needs it to know where the paper is during its travel. It will need to be fixed or 'engineered' back to a functioning form.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Open the front cover and pull the drum and toner cartridge out. If there is resistance, pop the scanner cover up and pull the paper tray out as well. Carefully remove the paper you find and reassemble.

You may not have of piece of paper jammed in the unit this would be very visible even if the paper had rolled up to the printer head itself. even then most of the time it will just eject it because of interference.

there can be any number of problems that can cause this.

1. the tray has not been properly adjusted to the paper you are using
2. the tray itself is overloaded with paper
3. the tray is not full enough to pick up paper
4. the tray will not lift to allow the paper to be picked up
5. the rollers have become worn, dirty, or weak
these are just a few problems that can cause your printer to say that there is a paper jam. if yours has been in use like mine for several years and used repeatedly daily. yes, i own a brother printer too and even though it still works great most days I get this same message all the time just because it wont properly lift or shuffle the paper.

I normally just pull the paper tray turn the paper over re stack and place back in readjust the tray so the paper fits properly and it will work fine in most cases at least until it gets low. also once every 3 months i take a can of air to it just to blow out dust, dirt and contaminants this is probably not a problem for you but still a good idea. I hope this has been helpful please let me know if I can be of further assistance

"unable to clean"

Hi dbostrander.
First check for foreign objects in the paper path. Check if you have any faxes in memory because you will lose them when removing power; see later.
Pull out the paper tray from the front and check for paper jams or torn paper anywhere inside the machine. Also check the 'jam clear screen' at the back of the printer. Remove the cover, remove any obstacle then replace ther cover. From the front of the machine lift the top cover from the right side till it is fully open on the slide. Check for jams. If the jam is under the print head you will have to disconnect the power (losing any faxes in memory *see below) to move the print head out of the way to clear the jam.Lift the scanner cover to release the lock. Gently push the scanner cover support down and close the scanner cover.
Check whether the MFC has faxes in
memory
1.Press Menu/Set, 9, 0, 1.
2. If the MFC has no faxes, disconnect the MFC
from the power source for several minutes
and then reconnect it then do as above.

—OR—
If faxes are present, you can transfer them to
another fax machine
If you have not set up your Station ID, you
cannot enter fax transfer mode.
3.Enter the fax number to which faxes will be
forwarded.
4.Press Mono Start.
5.After the faxes are transferred, disconnect
the MFC from the power source for several
minutes and then reconnect it.
You can transfer the Fax Journal report to
another fax machine by pressing Menu/Set, 9,0, 2 in step 1.

Hope this helps,
Mark.

Brother printer, paper inside, but I do not see paper inside.

PAPER JAMMED INSIDE THE MFC

1. Remove the Jam Clear Cover located in the back of the machine..
Squeeze the plastic tabs located on the right and left side of the cover
and pull the cover off.

2. Remove any paper you can see jammed in the machine. If you cannot
remove the jammed paper from the back of the unit follow the in
structions listed below for reinserting the cover and then continue to Step 4.

3. Re-insert the Jam Clear Cover. The top of the cover has a slotted
opening in the center approximately 1/4 inch wide. Hold the cover by the
plastic tabs located in the front of the cover on the right and left side and insert the cover into the opening until it securely
clicks intoplace (both sides).

4. Open the scanner cover by pulling up on the lower right corner of the
cover until it locks into place.

5. Remove the jammed paper. If the paper is jammed underneath the print
head, unplug the machine from the AC power outlet. Gently move the
printhead to the far right side of the machine (the "home" position) and
then remove the jammed paper.

6. Lift the scanner cover to release the lock and then gently push the
scanner cover support down and close the scanner cover.

To test print the Help List by pressing Menu/Set, 6 (Print Reports), 1
(Help List) and then Black Start. The Help list should begin printing.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Paper jam in brother MFC 240C

Usually small pieces of paper are jammed at the print head area. Lift up the scanner and see if you can find the paper at the print head parking area, clear the paper . If you can't find the paper, remove the scanner cables, then the scanner. You will see 2 screws at the rear and one near the USB connection. Another 3 screws towards the front will remove the front panel. Under the panel remove 4 screws and the two panel harnesses. The is a speaker harness which you must remember to attach back later (most people don't remember to put back). Lift up the top cover and you can see the whole engine. Clear any pieces of paper that might be there.
