Hi. I have an integrated Electrolux fridge freezer ER 7831. We recently had a huge build up of ice in the freezer (and also the top of fridge!) . After fully defrosting (we switched off the unit at the plug) for a couple of days, and cleaning it , and turning back on , the fridge has stayed quite warm and unusable . The freezer worked ok for 3 weeks but now that is getting warmer too and not freezing. It’s making all the right sounds though, and we’ve had the dial right up to 6 (max) , with no effect. Is there a way to rescue this , or is it time for a new one...? Any help much appreciated. Thanks . Graham

it is almost certainly a defrost problem. when fault has occured, remove freezer bzck panel and see if there is ice build-up. if so this confirms a defrost problem - possibly that the element is open circuit

SOURCE: SAMSUNG RS253BAWW NOT WORKING

the ice maker wont cycle untill the temp of the ice is around 10 degrees so if the freezer is at 15 or 20 due to some other malfunction then you will see the maker full of ice but it wont harvest and make another batch. so you could have a sensor bad, control malfunction, refrigeration issue, compressor, defrost system malfunction(you mentioned ice build up)

SOURCE: Fridge not cooling

Hi,

Your description is quite complete but is rather baffling. Pls bear with me while we process by elimination. A few basic/working ideas:

  • most designs call for a single compressor to cool the freezer;
  • the cold air in the freezer is drawn towards the fridge to cool that area;
  • this is performed by a fan drawing air in the freezer through the evaporator;
  • most would have a vent or air pathway to guide the freezer air;
  • all would have thermostatic control to set the desired temperature;
  • some designs have two thermostatic control , 1 for the freezer, 1 for the fridge.
As applied to your concern:
  • compressor is working since freezer is OK;
  • fan is working as you posted but is the air drawn from the freezer, better still, is the air forced/vented into the fridge?
  • could you please check that the air is strongly blown into the fridge area;
  • a little experiment, open the fridge door, look for and press on the door switch, the light should go out, after a lengthy seconds, the fan should trigger on, not only would it be audible, you would notice the frozen air swirling inside the fridge area. If you hold on long enough to the dorr switch, the compressor should kick in (if it is not already running) since the thermostat of the fridge area (if one is present) would sense that the fan is turning but the fridge area is not cooling.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Electrolux ETE 4200 SB-R freeze fridge. freezer cold, but fridge wont cool. back of the unit sealed with only compressor (?) visible at bottom. Cant check fans, coils etc. Cheers Gary

That is not a good model number. Is it a top mount freezer or side by side? Generally in electrolux the freezer is what cooks the fridge, if fridge is not cooling, it could be several things causing it.
1. Damper not opening
2. Damper has ice build up
3. The return has ice build up
4. The freezer evap assembly is not defrosting to allow air flow.
5. The evap fan is not turning.

My Electolux freezer freezes things at the top but not lower down, why? Also the top has a huge and rapid build up of ice crystals.

Sounds like you have lost some of the refrigerant charge. when this happens the cooling coils only freeze partway and the unit runs most of the time due to lost capacity.

Dear Sirs, We have and Electrolux integrated fridge freezer. The upper part ( fridge) is not keeping things cold any more but the freezer is ok. Nothing wrong with door seals etc... We have turned...

ice build up is usually a sign of lack of airflow(possible fan). or failure in defrost. if fan is running something related to defrost. there are bimetals that need to be ohmed out and the heater as well. if you can comfirm these parts are good change defrost control.

Hi I have an electrolux Rex FI22/10NFB no frost Fridge/freezer Lately its been making ice at the bottom of the freezer and at the top in the fridge what could be the problem?

look along the door seals to ensure they lay flat agaist the body, as an air leak encorages fros/ice build up even in a frost free unit.use a hot cloth to adjust.

Electrolux ER 7626 Fridge not cooling

Hello,

On these units there is a defrost heater which comes on after about 12/14 hours running time depending on usage.It would cut in for about 15 mins just to get rid of ice accumulated around the Evaporator.This heater or the timer has failed and ice has got between the duct. supplying cold air to the fridge unit.The best thing to do is to defrost unit for 24 hours and then try it and see if you can feel cold air coming up into the fridge.The repair for this is not that successful and you would be better off defrosting unit like a normal fridge/freezer.

Hope this was a help.

My father has an Electrlux ER 78311 fridge/freezer. It started icing up inside fridge and top of freezer. After we deiced it, it stopped working altogether. Still makes a noise as though it's working....

Did you deice totally or just the ice you saw. To properly deice the freezer section you have to remove the panel on the back of the freezer section and using a hair dryer remove all frost build up on the evap. coils. The most common cause of this problem in these models is the defrost t-stat going bad. Install a new defrost t-stat located on the coils and you will be good to go again. Hope this helps.

Top Freezer works fine but there is no ice building up in freezer the bottom fridge not cooling properlyThings are not as cold as they should be

Remove the back panel from the freezer to verify no ice behind the freezer panel. Look inside the air vent on the freezer panel for ice buildup. Make sure the freezer control is set to minimum not coldest freezer.. Make sure the freezer fan motor is working.

Error message on fridge "er ff"

Error code Er FF indicates that the evaporator fan has failed, or at least is not sending a signal to the electronic controls. Open the door and see if the evaporator fan is running inside the freezer compartment. If that fan stops, then no cold air will be sent to the refrigerator compartment and it will warm up. Possible causes include bad motor, bad connection, bad electronics.

Fridge freezer

there is a fan inside freezer behind back panel. if pipework behind panel is covered with ice, it will prevent air circulation and the fridge is affected first

take back panel off and check for ice build-up and that the fan is working
