SOURCE: Cannot open Shakespeare Synergy Steele 2001s fishing reel

alright man......i had the same problem. it just takes a little bit of elbow grease, bot it does twist open, it's just harder than hell to get it to twist off. I took a towel and laid it over the reel, and lightly tapped on it with a hammer to loosen it up a bit.

How does the spring go back in a Shakespeare Synergy 2001S reel?

Here are the steps to properly install the spring in a Shakespeare Synergy 2001S reel:
  1. Remove the spool from the reel.
  2. Locate the bail wire assembly on the side of the reel.
  3. Take the spring and slide it onto the bail wire assembly. The smaller end of the spring should be facing towards the reel.
  4. Hold the spring in place and reattach the spool to the reel.
  5. Test the reel by pulling the line out and then closing the bail. The spring should be under tension and hold the bail in place.
If the spring is not holding the bail in place or is not properly installed, the reel may not function correctly. If you are having difficulty installing the spring, it may be helpful to consult the owner's manual or a professional for assistance.

Why does the line vomit off the reel? Been buying gear for years and have never had this happen. Two new Shakespeare open face reels. Seems like trash to be.

Generally the label on the spool of line should be facing down, the line should come off in a clockwise direction. Once you have it spooled go outside tie the line to something and walk the line off and stretch it.

Cannot wind in

We had this same issue with an open faced and when we pulled the top off the plastic gears were stripped. Now this may not be the case with yours, but you should try to tighten the drag then open it up and check the gears.

The line constantly comes out of the reel. I just bought it. Have not had an open face reel in years.

Your line is not taking the memory of your reel, therefore coming off trying to come to its original state. You could try braid fishing line, which has no memory, or go down on the pound test of mono filament line your using. First, before buying anything else you should try to tie your string to one of the eyelets and reel in until the line is pretty tight(tight as you can get it), and leave for a couple of days, it will start to take the memory of your reel spool. Hope this helped.

Ladyfish fishing pole by shakespeare

try switching sides of the handle by holding the bell and reeling then screw it in on the other side of the real by just reeling in. If that doesn't work then take all the line out and reel in some new line the opposite way.
