My grandpa just gave me a pentax x90 to keep and fix because the lens is misaligned. he says it wont work because of that, and he has dropped it before. i can't find anything online about how to fix it and i really want it to work.
Those lens motors and gears are not that strong. When the lens gets out of alignment you can either send it into a repair place or you can attempt to repair it yourself. One of the things to consider is the cost and whether it is worth it. You can attempt to straighten the lens yourself. This can be done by looking closely at the lens to see which way it leans. You can then wrestle it back to a straight position. Another method to straighten that lens is to hit it with a hard bound book, squarely across the top of the lens to straighten it. You are forcing the gears to slip when you do this.

Camera repair is very specialized and you wont find any information on how to fix this other than what I have listed. Here is one of the places that I recommendhttps://www.precisioncamera.com/onecart-... It shows the total cost to repair anything wrong with that camera

The camera does not operate when a lens with the following conditions attached:
1. When a lens, which does not have autofocus function is attached.
2. When an F or FA lens is attached with the aperture ring set other than the A position.
3. F or FA 85mm f/2.8 Soft lens and FA28mm f/2.8 Soft lens cannot be used because these lenses do not have the A position on the lens aperture ring.

You will have to send the camera back to Canon for service, or buy a new one. The lens and maybe some other internal parts will have to be changed.

There is no way of fixing this camera unless you get a new lense barrel. Check out camerashyanna on ebay stores. Cheap repair service.

Your problem may be due to weak/worn out batteries or corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera
which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the
camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with
a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush,
steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen
into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of
the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears
the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, your batteries may need to be replaced, or the camera may have
a problem that requires professional repair.
