Can k light piolet with lither but no with unite
You should be able to light a pilot with a lighter or match if the built-in igniter won't do it.
Make sure you set the ON/PILOT/OFF button to the PILOT setting, push in on the button while lighting the pilot light (flame), and keep holding the button down for about 20-30 seconds. Then the pilot flame should stay lit.

The 18,000 btu A/C is 230 volts, are you sure the 12,000 btu unit is 230 volts most are 120 volts.
Usually 12,000 btu is the biggest 120 volt A/C you can buy.

There is a thermo coupler that shuts the gass off if it is ba. It is locacted just in front of the pilot flame It has to sense the pilot to let the gss through. It is an easy fix and inexpensive.

you may have cobwebs in the gas orifices. shut off gas and power then poke each hole out with a wire turn on gas and power and try again

A normal 2phase 220 or 240 V unit usually requires
2 wires and a ground. If you know what a contactor
is you will notice that only two line voltage wires can
be inserted into it and the ground wire to the equipment ground.
If you have a 3phase unit you would need 3 wires and a ground. Usually on the back cover of the unit it will
show the wiring diagram

Reverse the wires in the receptacle ,not the ground,this is most likely the problem the way the circuit is set up in the ac unit.Let me know if this helps.
