I have an Hitachi 50v500 LCD 50" TV that blue streaking happening. I discribed it in a previos query as blue shadow but it is definately blue streaking mainly right in the middle of the TV. It's only 3 years old and I am just sick about it. Helppppp!
I am not expert but before you go to a lot of trouble, read all of the post on the infamous "red cloud", "red blob" and "blue streaking". In evey case, it appeared that the light engine was the problem. We just had our light engine replaced and the TV looks perfect. We dealt only with Hitachis Customer Relations Department 800-654-7013. You will have to have a certified tech come out and diagnos the problem. Hitachi will then call and verify, with the dealer, that the problem is a defective light engine and will send out a brand new one.
We were told the part cost around $1500 (Hitachi covers that) however, they will ask you to pay for the install. Our install cost $400. Worth is to us as we paid $3600 for this set 3+ years ago and we have loved this TV. When you first call Hitchi, they will act like they've never heard of this problem but they will give you names of certified techs in your area. Once the tech confirms that it's the light engine, Hitachi will own up to the problem and send out the part.
You really should only deal with Customer Relations ( I listed their 800 number above as you will be chasing your tail so to speak with their regular customer service department. Good Luck!

Mortey,
There's a good chance that it's not the worst, like a light engine failure... Bad news is you'll need a tech to do it...
It need to have a memory initialization done from the I2C menu. There are a list of codes the tech will write down from the I2C menu then perform the MI.. Then he goes back in and resets the codes from his notes.. That's the boiled down version, but there is a lot to it - take my word..
When calling around to shops to find someone qualified ask how much they charge for performing a memory initialization per Hitachi bulletin and see what their comeback is - - ...
And let me know how this turns out for you...
I have had people on this forum that wanted the instructions and tried doing it themselves, but one ended in disaster - and despite my opposition from the beginning.

yes, I too have the blue streaking problem with my50" lcd. It's more like a large blob that moves slowly like a lava lamp. Only 2/1/2 years old and I too am sick. Any solutions?
I have blue streaking and ghosting of images on my 55" hitachi LCD and it's only 16 months old! Thanks for providing the hitachi #, I'll call them tomorrow. Does anyone know how you tell if you need a memory initialization or if you are experiencing light engine failure.
blue streaking
I am experiencing the same problem, mine started with a lot of red showing through in dark images and blurring, now I have a steady blue spot in the middle of my screen. Is this probably the light engine thing to. TV's about 2 months shy of 4 years old.
i to am suffering the hitachi t.v blues it all started when i was playing my ps3 with the hdmi cable in. now i dont no if that means any thing but thats when it happend also you can hear like a weird sound when hd mode turns on. now the blue blury image seems to be getting worse and larger i dont no what to do i bought the tv new about 2 yrs ago at walmart and only paid 1600 dollars so i am wondering if i should pay to get it fixed or is it something i can do my self
Well I have the same problem. A big red blob in the middle of the screen. The Hitachi authorized tech diagnosed the problem as the light engine and gave me the 800 number for customer relations. The set is just shy of 4 years old. Hitachi was not willing to work with me what so ever as far as providing any parts or labor without paying full cost. I will never buy a Hitachi product again!
We have
Blue streaks running across the television vertically. I have sound but no picture, the volume indicator will not even show on the tv
yes, same blue vertical lines on screen with bright background. Sound but no picture. Shut everything off for 10 minutes and turned on again, picture fine. Watched dvd and problem did not return. We'll see if it returns, no idea what caused problem
