Replaced dogs on agitator. Kenmore washer 110.27831600. Agitator makes loud banging noise when clothes get twisted around (and strangling) the turning agitator. Everything else works well - pump, spin etc. Makes less noise in Delicate cycle (less likely to twist clothes) with no strangling of agitator. ... New update: Ran load with lots of water, less clothes. The clothes swim around the agitator. The agitator action still makes a banging sound. Then for good measure, ran a load with just water - no clothes in load. Same agitator banging sound in just water. Then out of curiosity, ran a water only load without the (upper and lower) agitator - no noise. Put lower agitator (only) back on, the banging noise has returned.
I am not a repair person, but our Kenmore 700 washer started making a "banging" sound and the clothes got wrapped around the agitator. My husband took off the top part pf the agitator (watched a video how to do it) and it turns out a large bolt was loose inside of it. He tightened it and now it works normal again. I know this is years later, but hoping this might help anyone else that has the problem.
That does not sound good. New dogs sound great, but you must get to the bottom of why the clothes are becoming twisted on the agitator. Usually not enough WATER. Think loose flow of clothes submerged.
Long story short, you cannot jam pack this machine. Less clothes, more water, will equal long life.
Be sure that the mating teeth for the dogs, is not damaged. Slipping here would make loud noise.
More water, less clothes.
Testimonial: "Thanks for prompt answer. See update in question section. Machine is not jam packed. Dogs are fine. Ran with just water, no clothes. And ran with just lower agitator - banging noise still there."

time to look for a new washer, this is a gearcase problem, or cluth. Not easy to fix , unless know how.

To check the agitator. Start the washer into wash cycle. Once started Push down on top of agitator. If it catches some times or all of the time when pushing down, then then doggets are worn, under the agitator. You`ll have to remove the agitator to see these. If by pushing down on the agitator, nothing changes, Then you probably have a transmition problem. Check this and let me know what you find.

Unless your front loader is set firmly on concrete
and leveled to perfection, the force of a heavy wash load spinning in
excess of 1000rpm will create a bit of vibration and noise.A firm footing is your best defense against to much movement.
Also due to the earlier movements during the spin cycle, the
shocks that are used to dampen the spin cycle might have been broken or
damaged.
If the problem persists inspite of proper levelling, please do check for the shocks or might have them replaced them for good.

Remove the front panel and you will see two metal guides attached to the front of the frame. One of them will probably be bent and the transmission assembly will have jumped over one or the other of the guides. You need to manually pull it back to center then straighten the bent guide. May have been caused by load being out of balance or machine not properly leveled. Good luck.

sounds like you are dealing with the same problem as me .
take off the front panel (after unplugging power) take a flash lite and look at the large pulley at the back just below the pulley is the helix check to see if they are worn .
