SOURCE: cpu fan noisy/chip fan fail error messages

I had tons of problems with these Asus chip fans. I asked Asus to deliver 12 replacements (as I had a lot of pcs at that time with the same problem) It worked well, but placing a tiny heatsink well glued to the chip worked well also, as long as one does not want to overclock the thing. It's true that the temp raised a bit, but it remained pretty much in the tolerance area.

SOURCE: emachine t5230 cpu fan too fast

Hi orinzelenak,

This may seem like to simple, but try checking to see if the technician plugged the fan power supply into the correct pin for it. It sounds like the fan is plugged into a external plug directly from the power supply and not into the board, which would control the fan speed for you. Give a look, and maybe it's just that simple.

Good Luck

SOURCE: Dell GX280 High Speed Fan and No Display.

i had same problem today and i tested my machine and solved the problem at last.
the problem is the thermal value that your mainboard sets for your cpu.
please replace the mb.
ps: before this process,i tried almost everything . cpu fan , memory , cpu , cables ,case ... everything. but the problem is on your mb.

I have fujistu H series, the laptop is displying a fan error when switching on and fan stays at max speed.. any help?

could be your fan is full of dust and the heat sink of the cpu making it overheat. there is a vent where it would blow the hot air out. if your not getting air flow the vent might be clogged

Control speed fan

if your processor is that hot i would replace with new heatpaste and clean all fans.just doing the speed of the fan will not be doing it any good, you need to find out why its getting hot.

After powering on monitor says no sync

I've almost the same problem. When the system turns on the monitor doesn't sync. After a variable trials with down/up the sync is enabled and the computer starts.A very clear event occurs : when the monitor can''t sync ( and system doesn't boot)you can hear very clear a high fan rotation. When I look/hear in the system the Isuspect the cpu fan. The system boots ( monitor syncs) when the fan rotationgoes from high to low. So the system hangs on an internal check on the rotation speed of the cpu fan.I've googled a lot , but until now doesn't find an answer . Possibilties which I think about : replace cpu fan , clean cpu fun ( but it looks clean).I cannot measure the fan rotation speed when the system is hanging. At normal rotation all info can retrieved witth the program cpu-z.Did you already have a solution ?

Hi my name is Steve, my Acer M5811 CPU fan is running at high speeds since a couple of months now and after 2 minutes of gaming, it's game over for my Acer. I've applied cooling gel to no avail. I...

Well if the fan is runing at top speed I dont think you have a bad fan, if you re-pasted the CPU correctly (I suppose you cleaned the dust build up in the heat radiator as well) since you had it in your hands... I dont think it's radiator dirt, and if the system POST (Power On Self Test) an can boot in to the OS (Operating System) I don't think it's the CPU either... The only thing I could think of is a power supply issue, try an other one, or a bad component RAM, PCI CARD, ETC... (but befor spending money) unpluge averithing you can leaving just the power, CPU, RAM and start the computer, if it POST and the fans are at a normal speed, than power down the computer and plug back stuff ONE AT A TIME to determine which of the components is causing the problem, if not sucsessful than try an other power supply or other RAM modules...

I changed my cpu fan out, when i started it up it ran 30sec and shut down. So i replaced new mother board without fan., it still shuts down after a few sec. I disconected the 4 pin power source and it will...

From your problem description it sounds like the CPU was overheated (and failed) before you replaced the CPU fan - so the fan replacement was too late. Since the procesor already failed, installing a new motherboard without a fan did not accomplish anything.

The 4 pin power plug provides +12 volts DC to the processor. When you disconnected it, the processor essentially could not run at all and the system is no longer capable of detecting the CPU failure and shutting down the power supply.

You need to install a known good CPU which is the right type and speed for your computer. Unless you are experienced in replacing,CPU's, fans, heat-sinks and applying thermal grease I recommend that you have a PC technician perform these tasks.

Not at full power

Here are 3 things you can try:

1) Download Speedfan - you might be able to control or max out the fan speed with it installed.

2) Get a laptop cooling pad such as this.
3) Check the BIOS settings (F2 after power switch but before Windows loads) - there might be a way to disable fan speed control there - so the fan will run at full speed (noisy!)

If none of that works long term, the heatsink (between the fan & CPU) probably needs to be reseated with fresh thermal grease - a pretty tricky job on a laptop -

System is saying that CPU fan has failed and shuts system down. I just replaced the fan and heat sync it is still saying this.

Thermal paste is applied between the heatsink and the cpu heat spreader or die. If you removed the heatsink to replace the fan you should have applied new thermal paste to the cpu or you may have burned it up. Try clearing the bios like dageezer said. Look for a jumper pin near the onboard battery to clear the cmos.

Cpu fan noisy/chip fan fail error messages

Yes. This sounds like a fan issue. The noise often comes from bearings failing within the fan. Also, a failing bearing can make things harder on the motor as it brings the fan up to speed. This is likely the reason that you see increased warnings during the fan speed check while booting because it comes to speed more slowly as bearing wear increases.

I give this a 90% chance that your CPU fan is causing the issue. Since a decent CPU fan will cost you ~$20 online, it's not much out of your pocket if you happen to uncover another culprit.

I'll keep an eye on this post. Let me know how things go.

Cpu fan noisy /chip fan fail

You must buy a new CPU Fan. You can get them HERE or a zillion other places on the Internet. You need a Socket 939 type fan that will handle your cpu speed. If you need help installing it, it may be in the manual. You can read the manual by clicking on the picture of your MB at the top of this post and then scrolling down.

Hope that fixed ya...
