SOURCE: kitchenaid 250 watts k4ss mixer

The repair manual says that the mixer can make this grinding sound at slow speed, like stir or 2. This is normal, especially until it warms up. This is the sound of the gears turning at slow speed.

SOURCE: No Problem

This is "middle of the line" Kitchenaid as far as bowl size and motor strength goes. However, it is a great mixer that will probably fit your needs.

SOURCE: My wife's kitchenaid classic 250 watt mixer wobbles on the base

It sounds like your mixer likes to take a beating, ive never dropped one and for good reason, they weigh quite a bit. first check to see if all the rubber legs on the bottom are still there. if they are the only possible solution to fix it after being bent or warped is to either re-shape the part using a tool strong enough to do the job, or to replace the parts needed. the hinge pin part number is 16910. is the base is bent the part number is 240151-1. If the lower portion of the mixer itself is bent or warped this is a serious problem and will require you to dissassemble the entire unit. part number for the lower gearcase is 240350-4 Please not that all the parts list are white in colour. hope this helps.

Thanks

SOURCE: Our Kitchenaid 250 Watts K45SS mixer lock

Hi DVRZL5, Happy New Year. Based on your description of your mixer’s the symptoms, I would say your head locking mechanism (or a component of it) is either broken or worn/loosened due to normal wear and tear and needs to be readjusted (or repaired) to keep your mixer head stationery.
The inspection and troubleshooting of the inside of your mixer is a DITY capability, particularly if your mixer is out of warranty. Just be sure to have the Parts List manual on hand. If you're lacking one, you can download it from the KA website at: (http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home).
Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals& Guides> and enter the 6 character model number, in this case K45SSW, and then select the file under Parts List (1) K45SSWH0.pdf (341.41 KB). (Definitely check to see it this matches your mixer). The parts list manual provides an exploded view for the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer, along with all the part names and numbers.
Turn to page3, titled: “Base and Pedestal Unit.” You’ll want to focus on Illus. #9, Link & Lever Latch assembly, which locks the mixer head to the pedestal when you run the mixer. Disassemble your mixer to the point of accessing Link & Lever Latch assembly, and inspect the screw (Illus. No 12) to see if it hasn’t worked itself loose over time. That’s the simplest thing to fix. If loose, tighten. Inspect the rest of the assembly to determine if something else hasn’t broken or gotten out of alignment. If something has broken, you can order replacement parts and install them yourself.
As far as parts go, here are four potential vendors in no particular order: RepairClinic.com; mendingshed.com; searspartsdirect.com; partstore.com. Prices for the same part can vary widely between vendors, so do your comparison shopping.
While your mixer is apart it would be ideal to check for any other unseemly wear and tear on the gears, etc. It can be messy but quite gratifying to diagnose and repair your mixer yourself.
Here are some links to several excellent websites that detail the disassembling/reassembly of a KA Mixer.

Between these three websites and their excellent pictures and descriptions and your Parts List manual, you should now be able to completely disassemble and reassemble your mixer.
If you feel this repair is beyond your capability, then I would seek out a local small appliance repair shop in your area. KA Customer Care can give you names of local KA authorized repair shops in your area, but you can also do an online search to supplement what KA may provide you. Call to explain your circumstances and find out their hourly rate and get an estimate of what they think it would cost to repair your mixer. Also, always obtain three or more estimates – do some comparison shopping.
Good luck and have fun. I hope this helps. Howard, Burke, VA

SOURCE: Which is the better mixer of these old models: K5A

Hello ajlina,

All of these are great home use units, all the attachments are interchangeable between these. The difference between these mixers is the K5 is a 5 quart mixer and the K45 is a 4.5 quart mixer. As I own both of them they are great in the kitchen and have the same durability.

Have any more questions please post to this thread and I will be happy to assist. Thank you for using FixYa.

I can't find the model number of my kitchenaid professional 525 watt 6 quart mixer. I've taken it apart and don't find any numbers that resemble a model number. Any suggestions?

According to the website the model number for a Stand Mixer should be on the bottom and back of the stand mixer.

If you are seeking a Manual for your mixer search here:

http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/product_literature/search.jsp?siteCd=KA_EN_CA

Your model number may be KP2672 plus an additional four characters. You can search on the partial model number you have but you will come up with 50 possibles.

I an looking for the intructions on my Kitchen Aid mixer. It's 250 watt, 10 speed. I cannot wait to use it!

Hi. Goto kitchenaid.com. Click on the Customer Care button, click on find manuals, in the search window, enter k45sswh. this page will show the operating manual and farther down the page the parts manual. Download both these files.

Go to mendingshed.com and locate their FREE kitchenaid service manual and download it. This manual will greatly assist you or a repair person should your mixer ever need repair.

A word of caution...Do not overload the mixer with too much bread or cookie dough or it will cause damage to the transmission. Use the recommended capacities found in the manual.

If this solution has assisted you, please rate it. Good luck! ricardok45

KitchenAid 250 Watts; Classic: Leaking Oil

Found this,may be helpful.
Why do I see oil leaking from the beater shaft of my stand mixer?
Some KitchenAid® stand mixers that are not used very often or have been tipped may experience slight oil leakage from the shaft or hub attachment. To avoid the oil leakage, KitchenAid suggests that you run the mixer weekly for short periods of time. Generally, the mixer may lose approximately X cup of oil before repair is necessary. The oil used is FDA approved and is not harmful to consume, should any get into the food that you are preparing.
