If your washing machine is not staring up make sure that the switch is being pressed. If the lid switch is being pressed but no power is being supplied to the washing machines motor then the switch is not working and is bad and needs to be replaced. To test the switch, turn off power to washing machine and remove the wires that connect the lid switch.Have a person that repairs and fixes washing machines to take a look and see what the problem is.
hi Melanie.
this is all i could find out.
If the water won't drain out of your washing machine, either something is stuck in the drain hose or pump, or the pump is broken. Both fixes are simple if you're even just a little bit handy with tools. We're showing the repair on a Maytag washing machine. How to Drain Washing Machine That Won Drain Family Handyman What is wrong with a washer that does not spin?
If your washer fills with water but doesn't agitate, the problem is likely to be a faulty lid switch, a broken belt, or a problem with the motor. (Note: Direct-drive washing machines do not have belts.) To diagnose the problem, do the following: 1Check the washing machine's spin cycle Washer Doesnt Agitate or Spin Maytag Washing Machines will not rinse or spin Google Search
You need to make sure that the switch on the door/lid is making a connection. If the lid is not closing completely, clear whatever is not letting it close. However, if it's closing but still not working you may need to replace the switch. I have had them go bad and not make a connection when the lid closes.
Lid switch// just remove the cover plate on the back of the consol you will see a lid switch asembly the little micro switch tends to go bad but you can get that all as a asembly that is the way to do it//but do test the switches if you can use a ohm meter//Note the switch has to be adjusted ( when you open the lid one switch is contacted when lid is closed it cotacts the other switch) so you will have to adjust it and tighten down the screw..If I helped you please vote If you need more help please ask.
Ok, I figured it out, at least my problem. The short answer is that you need to replace the lid switch assembly, maytag mav7000aww part no. 12001908.
To verify you have the same problem as I do, remove the rear cover to the control panel (three philips head screws and two machine bolts, see http://www.partselect.com/ModelFrames.aspx?ModelID=117917&ModelNum=MAV7000AWW&mfgModelNum=&ManufactureID=1&Selected=52442&Position=2&mfg=Maytag&Type=&Mark=2 no. 14.) Use a volt meter to verify that you have power coming into the lid switch assembly harness (black wire). Use the volt meter to verify that you have no power coming out of the lid switch assembly harness (red and yellow wires.)
To further verify that you have the same problem as I do, remove the wire harness from the lid switch assembly and use a ohm meter to verify that the switch is not allowing power transmission. In the lid closed position (lid switch depressed), use ohm meter to test line-to-motor and line-to-machine connections.
If you verify that you have no power down-circuit of the lid switch assembly using the two methods above, then you have my problem. In this case, you can purchase the part noted at top for less than $25.
Open the top of the unit by placing a putty knife beween the top and the front panel about two inches in. There is a spring lock that you need to push in, then lift the top. Once you lift the top, you will see the lid switch. Remove and replace. Let me know if you need further help. Jim
