Electric typwriters are 'old' - in general - and old generation completely. they went out of style (and use) as computers and printers became inexpensive and ubiquituous.
now you know why it was sold. it was defective and there are no parts available since it is likely more than 20 years old.

Be sure the pitch selection is correct. If it is set to PS when using a 10,12 or 15 pitch wheel it will select incorrect letters.
