This printer requires special software to print labels with. It uses a unique PCL language to work with. Thats why when you use these printers with Fedex or UPS software, it typically downloads forms first before working.
Zebra used to see a label designer program to work with it. You might want to check with them to see if they still carry it.

switch off printer at the side. hold down the green feed key, switch on whilst still holding- as soon as you see a red light let go, then as soon as you see another colour hold it down again until it goes amber. then let go. let it go green, then switch off again. then once again hold down the green feed key and switch on, only this time hold it down untill it flashes red twice then let go. it will then print out a series of label. after this, press the feed key a couple of times until the last label is blank. you may need to repeat this process. if this fails to work then it is a firmware issue and should be sent back to who you bought it from for a technical examination.

I've had this problem. I changed the margins and it solved it.

Sounds like it is set to do a label length check at power on. Go into your printer preferences and set it to "do nothing" on power up.

Change orientation in the printer driver.
Open printer & Faxes folder, Double click on printer driver icon,
Zdesigner driver, click on properties, click printing preferences, tick the box "rotate 180%" Click apply & ok.
If driver is Zebra TLP2824, same as above, but hit the + on "Paper output" and turn "rorate 180%" on, then click apply.
