Is the card too big? Some old cameras -- and an ist-D is very old in digital camera terms -- are limited as to what capacity chips they can use. Check your manual or Google it. Also, it's not unheard of for a chip to be defective right out of the box. Try it in another device to ensure that it's not a defect.

Maybe you have to format the card before the camera recognizes it

SOURCE: memory card

Did you just buy this card or have you had it working for a while and now this is happening?

From everything i have read about your camera, they won't take a 2 Gig card. A 1 GIG card is the biggest that is compatible with this camera. If the card is new i would take it back to the store and see if they will let you exchange it for a 1 GIG card.

If this just started happening after using it for a while -- it could be a problem with the card or the camera. Try putting in a different card and see if it will let you format that one. If it does you know for sure the problem is with the card. If you keep getting the same message no matter what card you use, i would phone Kodak. But, according to Kodaks own site, 1 GIG is the biggest card that is compatible. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
Good Luck.

SOURCE: Pentax *ist DS digital SLR Autofocus problem

I had a similar problem with my istD until I finally managed to fix it.
Try this:
Take off the lens and gently lift the reflex mirror with you finger nail.
Very gently prise open the secondary mirror concealed underneath it to check that it moves freely.
Now take a pencil eraser and rub the electrical contacts around the lens mouth on the body.
Give them a good rub and blow out any resulting dust.
Pop the lens back on and take a few shots to confirm that autofocus now works perfectly (make sure you have fresh batteries)
Let me know if it works for you too.

Guys you have to have the camera format the SD card itself for best results and compatibility.

SOURCE: Brand new memory card

I have the same problem with the same camera. I checked other sites and it seems that the C330 takes only SD cards up to a max of 1GB. It won't read SDHC cards and it won't read SD cards greater than 1GB.

Memory card error

Clean the contacts of the SD card and check the contacts of the camera. Some foreign material could prevent the cards working. You can try another SD card to see difference.
Simple thing but check also the SD card write protection is off (side of the card).

I try to take a photo and is makes the sound but nothing is displayed or saved to the card, any ideas?

This could possible be happening due to a fatly memory card, try using another memory card and see if it works.

What is the largest capacity SD card that I can use with a Pentax IST ds camera?

The camera uses SD memory cards. SD cards max out at 2GB. SDHC cards run from 4GB up, but they cannot be used in SD devices. SD cards can be used in SDHC devices.

The short answer is 2GB.

I want to obtain a larger memory card (currently have a 1GB) but everyone we buy I have been unalbe to get them to format/ I have a pentax ist DS

You should be able to use 2GB SD cards. Cards larger than 2GB are actually SDHC cards and will not work with this camera.

Pentax IST DS & 2 GB SD cards

You need to upgrade the firmware on the camera. The latest versions will support cards bigger than 1GB; as delivered 1GB was the max.

Why is my *ist DS eating my SD cards?!

I've used Sandisk Ultra II 512M cards, a PQI 1G and a Transcend 1G card (all high speed rated) in the *istDS. I've done about 1500 exposures now, many RAW, and have done several rounds of upload to my computer. No problems at all. These same cards work flawlessly in a Panasonic FZ10 as well. Either you have had a bit of bad luck, two defective SD cards in a row, or have a *istDS with a stuck or bad memory card controller. Try using the Reset command in the Set Up Menu, see if that helps. BTW, always format SD cards with the camera once before you start using them.

SD card for *ist DL

Interesting... I've heard that (for the DS at least) the camera isn't capable of using more than about 60X, but of course your downloads can be faster if you use a reader. At 2gb, this might give you some benefit, but a full transfer of 1gb on a garden variety sandisk only takes a few minutes.
