Have a double oven GE cafe series. The upper oven won’t heat up at all now. It’s a gas stove, what should I check?

Hello John.

my first impression is the Flame failure devise.
It is coupled to the burner of the oven.
Sometimes you can buy only the safety device, but sometimes you must buy a complete set with the burner

I hope this helps, Dik

SOURCE: GE Profile gas range - stove works, oven doesn't heat

Set the oven for bake. Wait a couple minutes and look in the oven. If you see a orange glow the ignitor is working, but, may need to be replaced.
If you see no orange glow the ignitor definitely needs to be replaced.

SOURCE: GE gas stove top igniters won t stop clicking

I got this problem yesterday. My 6-month old GE range/stove top was being cleaned by a cleaning lady and suddenly, the igniters started clicking nonstop. I had to shut down the circuit breakers. I googled the problem, and it seemed clear that the "spark switches" got moisture on them. The best site which described this is: http://www.appliance411.com/archive/25012_ge_gas_cooktop_not_working_.shtml

Some people said you could dry them with a blow dryer, and others said you need to replace these switches (which is not too expensive, but takes some time/skill). I was hoping against this, so I tried something along those lines: I removed all the parts of the stovetop - the grill, the "cap", the metal funky piece, etc. until there was nothing but the surface of the stove and holes going down to the igniter area. Then, I took an electric fan and kept it pointed at the stovetop all night long. After about 10 hours, I turned the circuit breaker back on. No more clicking! And the burners all work! So, I think I essentially did the "hair dryer" solution, but did it more longterm without having to watch the clock to see if I did it long enough. Anyway, I don't normally post these things, but this discovery really helped me and I hope it helps someone else!

SOURCE: GE Gas Range Over Won't Heat

Hello, Yes this is going to be the bake igniter. If you remove the lower panel in the oven you will see the bake igniter. It may still be working when you switch on the oven but it is not getting up to the correct temp in order to ignite the gas. Replace the igniter and you will be all set. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment. Good Luck! Mike

GE wall oven gas model # JGRS14 won't heat past 100 and I don't see any flames

if you can see the ignitor glowing on either the broiler or the lower area of the oven then the gas valve is bad and not opening anymore, sometimes the ignitors are the culprit as they are in series with the gas valve and if weak wont let the valve open, but both upper and lower burners not operating i would suspect a gas valve first

Double wall oven: Model JKP26GOP13G. The upper oven heats but not up to the setting input. If setting is 350 F, for example, the stove only gets to around 200F.

I trust the door is sealed correctly. If heat is escaping this could be the problem. If the seal is okay the only thing it could be is the oven thermostat controller. It sounds like it is faulty and needs replacing.

My GE gas oven won't heat up. The burners on the stove work fine and the broilier works, but when you put it on bake nothing happens.

The safety solenoid on the gas valve has failed.
This is not a repair you should do (other than remove the gas valve) let the appliance repairman rebuild the valve and check for leaks.

I have a double gas oven and no instructions

I have an O'Keefe & Merritt double oven gas stove. The model number is 72 7242 23. The upper oven is about the size of a large microwave and sits above the range burners. The lower (full-size) oven is below the burner unit and includes a broiler draw below it.
So, when you say, double oven, I wonder if you are just talking about the main oven with broiler drawer (both of which are below the burner unit.)

Mine was a builder-supplied appliance in the new house we purchased in 1986. The upper oven has never performed very well. And, yes the upper oven can only be used for baking.

I have an instruction manual for it, but it doesn't provide that much information. Getting parts for it is extremely difficult, since Tappan is no longer manufacturing this brand. (I've been trying to locate a flat oven ignitor for the upper oven and can't seem to find a replacement that's the same 6-1/3" length.) In the 1980s Tappan apparently purchased O'Keefe & Merritt and marketed this brand for several years. Models originally manufactured by O'Keefe & Merritt in the 1930s-1950s are considered collectible antique stoves!

Electric Oven doen't heat

cdkd, there should be a TC0, on the back of the oven. Thermal cut out. You want to check to see if it is open. You will have to pull the oven out enough that you can remove the back panel cover and check it. The lower and upper oven should have one. It's a very cheap part to replace. If this TCO fails, no heat. Check this first before buying a new board. Catriver..post back.
