My husband took the unit off the wall looked down into the fan and found a dead mouse keeping the fan from spinning. We removed the dead mouse cleaned up the area. Turned on the oven. The fan worked perfectly. Then he rehung the microwave.

Sounds like a bearing is tightening up when it get heated up with use. Then after a cool down period it works normally until using it heats it up again. Eric

SOURCE: microwave oven fan will turn itself on and off

It may be a shorting pad (the hood / vent fan pad) on the keypad or a part on the control board.

Absolutely - If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and please do not leave it running unattended.

We regularly repair these control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so with a one-year guarantee.

If you need a new keypad, that would add about $37 to that cost.

Feel free to visit our Web site or contact me directly with your model number and symptoms.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: The vent fan on my

The vent fan is controlled by 2 relays on the control board. Relay #4 is for high speed & relay #5 is for low speed. It sounds like one of the vent fan motor relays on the control board are getting shorted together. Something like this will require replacing the control board. -----------The relay has to be checked. If the relay is shorted it has to be replaced, in some cases the control board itself has to be replaced, as shorted relay also shorts the control board.---------- You can get required parts from repairclinic.com or from sears parts direct.com.The relay has to be bought from local appliance parts store.A local appliance repair tech can provide this relays, as original relays are not available, but they will provide substitute/ compatible relay for that relays. ------- But if relays not helping, then control board is the final option.-------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Kenmore Microwave model Fan running and light on when door closed.

This is normal. Kenmore microwaves will stay running with fan and light on for a short time after food is cooked. The reason is to air out the microwave after cooking. Things like pop corn, Bacon etc. have strong smells after cooking. The ventilation helps to remove odors.

My microwave oven model 721.85033111 vent fan stays on

You probably have a bad fan thermostat. This thermostat is supposed to turn on the vent fan if the microwave oven gets too hot (caused by cooking too much or having too many burners turned on on the range beneath the microwave oven). It should shut off in about 15 minutes after your turn off the range burners. But if it comes on for no reason, or won't turn off, then You probably have a bad fan thermostat.

Why won't my kenmore microwave's exhaust fan turn off?

It is more than likely one of the door switches has malfunctioned, or there is a problem with the keypad control board.

Everything works... except the heat!

Maybe one of the fuses, get an engineer to look at it, for safety reasons.
