When the TomTom navigation software (on your SD card) is bad (corrupted, error) an X is shown on the screen ...
You'll want to try to recover the software from your backup (that you have made on your computer).
If you also have the TomTom navigation software on the main memory, try removing the SD card and start the GPS up again. If that works, you'll want to restore/re-install the copy of the navigation software on your SD card.
Otherwise, you'll need to connect your device to the HOME (or MyDrive Connect) software (on your computer/laptop) to see if you can re-install the software.
Recently, TomTom has decided to limit/stop support (including software/maps, etc.) for certain (older) models of TomTom GPS. If your model is one of those, you're out of luck. TomTom is trying to have you buy a new model.

SOURCE: SD Card not showing in my Tomtom go 720 to play MP3

If you want to play mp3 songs from sd card then create mp3 folder and place all the songs in side that folder. Now when you go to Juke box menu it will scan all the songs and you will be able to play them the way you want..

SOURCE: Tomtom One 130 shows pic of Tomtom, flashing x, pie chart icon on left .

TomTom Home must have corrupted the TomTom's operating system. That is what that symbol means. Contact TomTom support and tell them what model you have and they will walk you through getting the correct version installed.

SOURCE: When I switch on my TomTom, SD card has a red cross?

This problem is due to the memory card not containing the TomTom application or map. To update the application onto the memory card, Connect the device to your computer. Open the TomTom Home application. Click on 'Update My Device'. This should then install the application onto the SD card. Alternativly, you could perform all the steps above without the SD card in the device, this will install the application onto the internal memory. Note: you may also need to install your maps, voices, etc after you update.

When turn On can get the screen showing the GPS connected to Computer when not connected ,On Battery only, get red cross flashing

If your TomTom shows a red cross, it means the device is not able to load the software to be able to operate. Some devices have this software on a SD-card, some have it stored on an internal memory.
If there was a SD-card in your TomTom, I would suggest to put it back. If there is a empty SD-slot on your device, it could be you lost your SD-card, but some TomTom devices have an internal memory AND a SD-slot for memory extension, so if you have an empty cardslot it doesn't necessarily mean there has to be a card in it.

When you never saw a SD-card, probably some data went corrupt on the internal memory. When you have a SD-card, probably some data got corrupted on the SD-card.

To repair the software, you need to connect your GPS to your PC or Mac with a USB cable.
You also need the program TomTom HOME. You can download it for free on the TomTom website.
With TomTom HOME you can update the operating system of your device for free (map updates are nor free).

Try updating, and see if your device works again.

If this doesn't work, post it here.

Won't start, seems to be a problem with the card

If you have an SD card installed then
Remove the SD card from the tomtom
The card may need to be formatted properly first or re-formatted.
Formatting is better done in a card reader.
There are differing views but this method has always worked for me.
Insert the card in the reader,. Using my computer or windows explorer right click on it and select format
select FAT32 as the files system
Now connect the tomtom to the pc but don't let tomtom home run.
Exit TomTom Home if need be.
You now need to select your tom tom which will also show as a drive and may even show its own special icon.
In windows explorer select tools then folder options.
Click view and tick the box for "show hidden files and folders"
It may warn you but you can ignore it.
then just copy ALL the files from the tom tom to your sd card.
DO NOT USE CUT AND PASTE !
Once all the files are on your new card switch off the tom tom and insert the sd card and re-boot the TomTom
It should now work.
If not try the hard re-set in which you would use a paperclip to reset the tomtom. there should be a tiny hole on the underside of the unti.
push the paperclip in there (not too hard) while the unit is switched on
This would cause a reset to factory defaults (you may have to set home location etc)
You may also have to switch off and re-boot again for it to take effect.

Sd card with red X

your device may be looking on the SDcard inside. You should not remove the card if you device is powered on, it may wipe the card and make it unuseable! Instead, also allow a short time before you remove the SD after you power it down aswell. As is for all SDcards when you need to remove it.

My Tomtom is not working

Unfortunalty , you have missing , corrupted or damaged files on your SD card. if you backed up your SD card earlier to a PC , then format and reinstall them to your TomTom SD card.

good luck

Set up voice John Cleese

Hi,

You need to put the File / files associated with the voice onto your SD card in the Voices folder.

Use an SD card reader and your PC to look on the TomTom SD card. Find the folder called "VOICES". Copy the John Cleese voice files into the "VOICES" folder.

Once this is done put the SD card back in your TomTom. Switch on. When the TomTom starts up , tap the screen and select "Preferences" , then move through Preferences until you find "Lips" icon and under that it will say " Change Voice" . Tap the Lips Icon , then move right or left until you find the required / John Cleese Voice and select that. Your Tom Tom should now give directions with the John Cleese voice.

Please note: Some voices that you can download free of the internet can contain viruses or if you are unlucky they can contain faulty data which can effect the workings of your TomTom.
As a precaution , before you copy or alter or add anything to your TomTom SD card you should make a Backup of your SD card onto a PC. The if anything gets upset on your SD card you can always format it and restore the origonal data.

Good Luck.
