Abit Kn9SLI MOTHERBOARD SHUTS DOWN ??

Hi All,

I have just brought a Abit KN9SLI motherboard its a am2 socket i have put a 3000+ cpu in and 1gb of ram (had lying around) the systems powers up goes , post's i can then either enter set up or wait and it will run the windows disk , i keep getting a message that the cpu has been changed and to save the changes ? anyway if i press f1 it will load the cd run for a while then just shut down ?? but the strangest thing is that after it shuts down my graphics card (pci-e) wont work ? i have to unplug it boot up power down and re-install this sometimes works ? Also i think im reading the manual right but if put the cmos clearing tab on pins 1-2 the system will not power up if i put it on 2-3 it will or if i leave it off altogether it will run(for a bit)?
Sorry for going on just wanted to get it all on 1 post

I have re-read the manual and having pins 1-2 shorted is the normal setting for the mobo ? if its the normal setting why would that harm my mobo?

Also the ram i am using is 667mhz my mobo says it will support 800mhz could this be a problem?

If you had read the manual right you would not have attempted to power up with pins 1-2 shorted out.
You have have damaged your MoBo

The fault could be the cpu, wrong type of ram, a faulty ram module
or a fault in the mainboard.
Check all the settings in the manual and the bios aswell.

Here is a list of beep codes:
Basic Beep Codes for ABIT AWARD BIOS Motherboards

No beep at all - this means your motherboard is dead, either due to a defective or underpowered power supply, poorly seated CPU or RAM, or a dead-on-arrival board
One beep - board is working fine
One long beep then machine shuts down - faulty, improperly installed or missing CPU
1 short(Beep) System booting is normally
2 short(Beep) CMOS setting error
1 long - 1 short(Beep) DRAM ERROR
1 long - 2 short(Beep) Display card or monitor connected error
1 long - 3 short(Beep) Keyboard Error
1 long - 9 short(Beep) ROM Error
Long(Beep) continuous DRAM isn't inserted correctly
Short(Beep) continuous POWER supply has a problem
A two-tone siren, generally caused by overheating or out of specification voltages
Four beeps then machine shuts down. This is because this version of the BIOS will shut down your machine if no fan tachometer signal is detected on the fan header. Make sure you attach a fan to the FAN1 or FAN4 header or clear CMOS to reset to default (no checking).

How to change an Am2 socket to a 939

1. Connect the computer operating system and save up to five minutes waiting for the AM2. Unplug the power cord plugged into the computer and the cables for each of the other components of the computer case. 2. Put the computer case on its side on a flat surface. Unlocking the computer side panel by removing the case screws on the back wall. So remove the lid of the box that the motherboard is visible. 3. In the Annex, the power of large space in the upper left corner of the computer. Unplug the power from the motherboard. Find the positions of the rectangular, green RAM module on the right side of the fan on the motherboard. 4. Slide the plastic lock down on both sides of the RAM module and remove the module from the motherboard. Repeat the process if necessary, if the computer two or more RAM modules. Find the card with the lower left corner of the motherboard. 5. Remove the screw holding the end of the metal rod of the expansion card on the back of the computer. Pull the card and remove them from your computer. Repeat the process if you have two or more expansion cards on the motherboard. 6. Disconnect the cable from the plastic fan on the motherboard. Slide the side guides of the fan and remove fan and heatsink metal AM2. 7. Pull the handle to the right of the issued AM2 processor. Pull the CPU and the motherboard removed. Remove the screws in the corners of the plate and slide the motherboard, right. 8. Lift the motherboard of the computer case. Place the socket 939 motherboard inside the chassis and drive expansion ports and power with the holes on the back of the case. Press the board to stick to the left and the screws on the motherboard in place to replace. 9. Set the Socket 939 processor socket on the motherboard and reconnect all processor pins on the base contact. Slide the locking arm and spread a layer of thermal cooling of the processor with the applicator stick. 10. Connect the power cord and insert the RAM modules and expansion cards for the new motherboard. Put the lid side of the computer and reconnect all cables.

The motherboard has a AM2+/AM3 socket, and the processor is AM2, while there is some compatibility between AM2+ and AM2 sockets, it is not guaranteed, so this could very likely be your issue.

hi there..

i also have the same mobo like yours. i also thinking to upgrade my old processor with better one..

made some quick research.. i would say the mobo unable to support the new processor. checked the BIOS update n CPU support list in Abit's site..

didn't show X4 processor is supported :(
