Bearings or piston/ring problem
might be a loose valve seat insert making the valve hit the piston
or valve head broken off
you will have to have it pulled down to find the fault
if it is a chain drive to the camshaft , might be a very worn chain

SOURCE: knocking when first start engine

Depending on the period of time and intensity of the knock ? If it is a rapid short ,loud knock then disappears altogether you may be dealing with a cam chain tensioner that is loosing oil pressure when the car is standing. A loose cambelt tensioner can increase the noise .

SOURCE: knocking noise

Your problem may not be a broken spider assembly. My Kenmore Elite (model # 110-42822-203) had a kocking problem as well. After taking the back off, I discovered that the nut holding the pulley to the drum shaft (on the outside of the outer basket) was slightly loose. I simply re-tightened this an the knock went away. The pulley was shifting on the shaft ever so slightly, leading to the knock. Cost of fix: $0. :-).

SOURCE: engine or transmission knock / rattle upon

I had the same problem on my 2006 Lucerne and it was the engine mount located on the front of the vehicle behind the radiator.

SOURCE: Engine make Knocking noise when cold

I have the same problem on my 2.0L 2001 Legacy auto. It began about 1000 miles ago. It has now done 84k. From my online searches this is most probably 'piston slap', and is not serious. To save weight Subaru shaved down the skirts on the pistons. With normal engine wear the pistons will at some point rattle against the cylinders until the engine is heated up and the pistons expand. The rattling should go away after a few minutes. If it persists say 10-15 minutes, it may be another problem.

Engine knock

caused by hot and lean.
which engine.??? at least 3 choices.
most have knock sensors. and will not knock.
if it really is knock then that is serious.
knock means detonation or ping.
if its just noise say that,
real PING happens under load.
1: check fuses.
2: check knock sensor for outside damage.
3: SCAN the PCM. do you have any DTC errors/
4: do a full 60k tune up. maybe its lean because the fuel filter is clogged.

Engine knocking noise

this could be a rod knock. it would require droping the oil pan. a rod cap could be loose or it could be a spun bearing. this could also mean having to replace the crank shaft. hopefully it is an accessory on the engine that is loose

How do I replace a knock sensor for a 1992 toyota camry v6 le

First, I would like to mention that most knock sensor codes are not caused by the knock sensors, but a mechanical problem with the engine. The knock sensors cannot differentiate between noises caused by mechanical problems like a bad pulley bearing, bad motor mount, noisy alternator bearings, etc. and spark knock. knock sensor codes are set when the computer has retarded the timing as far as possible to compensate for ignition ping (Spark Knock) and the noise still exists.

With that said, here are the instructions.

Remove the Intake Chamber assembly.
Disconnect Injector connectors.
Disconnect the heater hose from the Intake Manifold.
Remove the 9 bolts. 2 nuts, 2 plate washers and Intake Manifold assembly.
Remove right hand engine mounting stay and water outlet.
Disconnect the following hoses and connectors:
Radiator inlet hose.
Engine coolant reservoir hose.
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor connector.
Engine Coolant Temperature Switch connector.
Ground strap connector.

Remove the 3 bolts and right hand mounting stay.
Remove the wire band.
Disconnect the water bypass hose from the inlet housing.
Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts, 2 plate washers and water outlet.
Remove the 2 gaskets.
Disconnect the Knock Sensor connectors.
Remove the Knock Sensors.

Loud knocking noise at end of spin cycle

Have you checked the wire harness ,because the tapping of just 2 wires hitting the cabinet is overlooked alot. The noise just 2 wires makes simulates a hammer knocking inside. If the problem isn't escalating than check to see if your tub support arms are all tight. There are 12 of them.
