The control circuit board needs to be removed and repaired. We routinely repair these from customers nationwide for $32.50. It sure beats the cost of a new board!

Usually, when your microwave oven doesn't work it all, the internal fuse (thermal fuse) is blown. This fuse protects both you and the oven. When it blows, you need to have a qualified appliance repair technician replace it.

Door switch If the fuse isn't the problem, check the door hooks and the door-release button. When these are broken, the door switch doesn't activate, so the oven can't work.

SOURCE: microwave trips circuit breaker when plugged in

The circuit is probably a 20Amp circuit (see the number stamped on the circuit breaker switch). Most likely, it is the same circuit as the refrigerator, crock pot, window A/C unit, etc....

Also, if you are using an extension cord or a power strip or a surge protector. Those may not have a high enough power rating.

One other possibility (not likely) is that the circuit breaker is a 15Amp and the microwave is 1500 watts.

What else is cut off when the circuit breaker is tripped?

Solution is to use a different outlet for the microwave, or turn off any other applicance in the same circuit (except the refrigerator, of course).

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: my microwave oven keeps tripping the circuit

If a fuse inside had blown, that would definitely reduce the current flow rather than trip the breaker.
I have replaced several breakers over the years; they no longer last forever.
Try your Amana on a different circuit, not in the kitchen; if that other circuit likes the oven, the breaker is bad. If the alternate circuit breaker also trips, then you have not a blown fuse in the Amana but rather a shorted component inside and repairing the oven will likely cost about the same as replacing it.

My kenmore microwave started tripping circuit breaker when on start It is about 3. yrs old. Never had a problem before. It is not the circuit breaker.

There are parts inside the unit that fail and can cause this. One such part is the high voltage diode. You can repair it yourself but if you dont know electronics, I dont recommend it.

Hi there, I have a Kenmore Elite microwave that recently started tripping the breaker every time the door is opened when running. If I stop the microwave, THEN open the door it does not do it. Ideas?

they use a lot of power and should have it's own outlet, try plugging it in to the same plug as refrigerator, it's a double circuit and will have the power to supply both units, there should also be another plug in kitchen that is double circuit, keep trying different plug to you find it..
double circuit means top has 1 breaker and bottom is on another breaker

We have a kenmore microwave oven & keeps tripping our breaker switch. Its not even a year old. What is the problem?

Your microwave should be on a 20 amp dedicated circuit. Often people add these later after initial construction and do not have an isolated circuit for it. If you have this on a circuit with other outlets or possibly the refrigerator, this can cause the circuit overload and trip your breaker. Try running an extension cord from another circuit that is not being used such as outlets, but not GFI outlets! and see if your microwave operates then. If not you have an internal issue with the microwave and it could be a defective Magnetron or doorswitch assy causing the problem.

I have a Kenmore Elite microwave. The circuit breaker tripped, and now there is no readout on my microwave. The outlet works fine, because I tried with another appliance. Is there anything I can do

It shows that is there is some direct short circuit in the product if you are technical person then only check one by one HT diode,HT capacitor and finally HT transformer & megnatron.

I have the Kenmoore Microwave Hood 721.80402. During this last wave of storms, I was without power for 2 days. Once the power was restored, the microwave will not work. Everything is plugged in and the...

You might try pulling the plug on the unit and leaving it overnight. The electronics may have locked up due to irregular voltage during the failure. There may also be a GFI (ground fault interrupter) on that circuit that has tripped for the same reason. Check the kitchen outlets for a tripped GFI.

MY KENMORE 1000 WATT LITERALLY WORKED FINE ONE MINUTE THEN NOTHING THE NEXT. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENED.

Most likely the circuit breaker tripped or the fuse blew. A 1000 watt microwave is using 2/3 of the power available on a typical household circuit of 1500 watts. If anything else is plugged into that circuit u can have a problem. Just reset the breaker or replace the fuse and u will be up and running. if it happens alot you should consider a dedicated circuit for your microwave only.
