Get out the manual. Open and place it next to the sewing machine.

Read each step, beginning with winding the bobbin and threading.

I believe you will find that you threaded the machine with the presser foot down.

Presser foot down when threading = closed tension.
Closed tension = thread cannot enter when the machine is being threaded.

No thread in the tension control = no control of the thread as the needle attempts to create a stitch with the bobbin thread.

Continue testing each feature of the machine according to the manual and you will soon be proficient in the operation of your new machine.

it is a problem your tech can fix, ( should have been done when he had the covers off) but take it back in and tell him to adjust the sensor on the cutter so it doesn't rub and to clean the sensor. this will fix the problem
