My 24lit. LG MG-583MC multiwave microwave with grill very slow to cook i.e. A cup of cold coffee takes about 2,5 min to boiling point.

Had Magnatron replaced about a year ago. Assume it was a 700W instead of a 900W magnatron as no details can be found on the magnatron.

Sounds like its not on high power.. Some microwaves have a popcorn button..This is usually automatically a high setting.Try putting your water in then hit popcorn...If the water heats up faster then your power settings are set wrong. You just need to change them. Your not set on high power..

The owner's manual will give you the warranty length. If you don't have yours, you can find it here: http://www.geappliances.com/shop/prts/

You really need to call GE on this. Only they can answer if they will still cover it. GE Answer Center -800-626-2005, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Otherwise, it may fall under your State's lemon laws. You can contact the Attorney General's office, usually via http://www.state.xx.us (where xx is your State's 2-letter abbreviation).

SOURCE: Noisy magnatron

First of all, if you press against the right side of the outer cover of the oven, does that lessen the noise? If so, it may be that a rubber cushion on the side of the HV transformer has fallen off.

If it had that hum but was not heating, I would first check the HV rectifier diode.

But since it's cooking, I would say your magnetron is on the way out.

Unless the warranty is about to expire, I'd continue to use it and watch and wait.

This an early indicator that the magnetron "heats the food" is failing, usually they will go without warning and eventually will need to be replaced.

LG microwave intermittently runs

I would try troubleshooting the "defrost circuit". The behavior sounds like the microwave is cooking in the defrost mode, where it actively cooks then stops allowing the food to rotate and the heat to spread then actively cooking again.

if microwave is counting down but no heat you either have a loose connection at the magnatron tube or the thermal cut out fuse that is connected to the magnatron has blown or you have a micro switch, that has failed

Kenmore microwave Model 72 8975590 (750 W) is taking longer to heat food. Takes 3.5 min to bring one cup water to boil, previously took 2,5 to 3 min. Does the element lose power over time?

I can adjust the power level so that circuitry seems to be ok. The longer water boil time could be partially due to the colder winter temperature of the inlet water. We'll just cook the food a bit longer as long as the magnetron is still working.

JVM1540DN1WW leaves food cold

Put in one cup of water at 2 1/2 minutes on high -- it should boil.

The fan slowing down is normal becaue the magnetron, which does the heating and, which pulls about 10 amps, will drop the voltage across the fan and slow it down.

What type of circuit was your old microwave using? Was it a circuit dedicated to the microwave?

The microwave won't boil water or cook the food we put in. its only saying power 100. what do we do?

I may need more information, however, I suggest that it could be either a dead magnatron or the high voltage fuse link to the magnatron. Check "Demo" mode, WARNING: if you try and replace the fuse or magnatron yourself, make sure of 2 things, 1/ unplug from the wall 2/ make sure the HV Capacitor is discharged before touching anything around the magnatron....also, I may need the model and brand for better diagnosis... Oven turns off

Hi,

You are running the risk of damaging the Magnatron by doing this.

Check the packets you are using, you will have to reduce your power output.

This is because microwaves act by being absorbed by water. There is very little in popcorn and in fat. Once this has been evaporated, the microwave energy builds up (as it is still being produced - but not absorbed), and ends up cooking the magnatron itself.

I have seen countless posts on here after cooking popcorn!

More fun on the hob anyway - and cheaper to buy in bulk!
