Once a disc has been loaded onto my DVD recorder/player when I attempt to play it sometimes it does but sometimes it says "disc empty". Later on it sometimes does play the contents of the disc.

At any time an "empty disc" does play its contents but sometimes it repeats the message "empty disc".

It's either dust or some fault, such as a dry solder joint. Cleaning the lens might solve the problem.

SOURCE: Samsung 3650 dvd/vcr player loading problem

Sorry, no suggestion other than don't buy Samsung. That's my conclusion after owning the same model. It worked fine for a while, but now won't load any DVD... usually. Sometimes it will play one, but more often it won't. Mine tries to load ("Loading") for a long time, I hear the DVD spinning, then ultimately the screen displays "This disc cannot be played" or something to that effect.

SOURCE: JVC XV-THA5R multi-region DVD player - fault recognising a disc in and playing

I too have this same problem on my current DVD player, AND strangely enough I had the same problem on my previous player.
Previous player was made multi region and was a Sony S660 (I think that was the model number).
My current DVD player is a Denon and was £550! It is also made multi region and has the same problems! I don't get it!

SOURCE: dvd will not record

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, try to clean the lens using a CD disc cleaner. Additionally, verify that your blanks are either DVD-R or DVD-RW.

Pls post back result(s). Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: dvd "unknown disc" message coming up

When Your DVD shows "LOADING" for quite some time and then if shows "UNKNOWN DISC" or "NO DISC", Open the cover of your DVD Player, Remove the flap over the disc by opening the screws. Remember that you are not keeping your eyes perpendicular to the lens. Now take Colin liquid in an ear buds and rub over the lens. Now with dry end of the bud, rinse it and make it dry. Keep the disc in the space provided for. Put on the Flap over the disc. And try to run it. I hope this would work fine.

I have recorded a Hi-Fi video onto a DVD using a Toshiba D-VR5SC recorder and I cannot play the DVD on other DVD players. How do I solve this?

have you tried finalising the disc, you should find the section to enable this to be done in your owner,s manual. Usualy once this is done the disc can be played on any dvd player.

Trying to record on a DVD-R , after several minutes trying to load i get a msg saying it can neither read nor play this disc , check disc,,please help

I've had this problem with trying to record on CD-Rs also. DVD and CD recorders can be very fussy. You just have to get a piece of dust or a fingerprint on the CD or DVD that's being recorded onto and it gets kicked back as a check disc or blank disc..

Another problem is some recorders will only accept certain brands. I've had problems recording onto a SONY CD-R with a SONY recorder! So, in summing up, try a different brand or make sure the disc is clean. Sometimes just taking the disc out and putting it back in in a different position will make the recorder think it's an OK disc. Hope this helps.

How can I record a tv show onto a blank disc? I

Make sure you have the right DVD disc and the disc is clean if you do... (2) make sure you connected it right and are fully seated. LINE IN on your DVD-R is for the recorder part LINE OUT on the tv is to send it to the DVD-R If you done that try another RCA cable or two That should fix it

Dvdr3576h will record on dvd+r but will not play on other devices

You will need to finalize the discs on the Philips. I know the manual says that +r may auto-finalize, but I found that finalization sometimes fails on the first attempt. Go into the menu for the Philips, and select the Edit Disc -> Finalize option. Once finalized, your disc should play in other players.

DVDs recorded on HR720 do not play on any other player or PC!

Hi there,

not sure if this will solve your issue. But in order to be able to see the DVD recorded on the HR720 (or typically any other DVD recorder) you need to "lock" it. This is done in the File Manager Menu. The DVD recorder will ask you twice, whether you want to "lock" the disk. Once you have done that it will format the DVD like a normal DVD-Video, meaning it can be played on any regular DVD player. However, once locked you cannot re-open the DVD.
Hope this helps. Otherwise check in the user manual under "recording a DVD" - it is mentioned also there.
