2002 mitsubishi galant are fans supposed to run when starting car?

My friend said my radiator fan wasn't running when he started my car, and I needed the relay... But I don't recall my fans automatically starting when car starts. Thought it had to do with the temperature!?

Some cars have other fans for different purposes and it isn't unusual to hear a fan run for a short time after switching on but it is most unlikely the radiator cooling fan. Sometimes, I have noticed the aircon condenser fan (if fitted) running when the ignition is first switched on.

The radiator cooling fan is controlled by temperature.

The fans should run whenever the AC is on. But if it's off, the fan should only run when the computer thinks the temp is too high

Check the fan itself for free turning--if it grinds or is hard to turn, replace the fan motor. The engine heat sensor reports temperature to the computer which turns on the relay and it turns on the fan motor. If you have A/C, turn it on--that should force the fan on all the time the car is running. If that works, then replace the sensor. If you don't have A/C, take a chance on the sensor--it's not too expensive. Wrap the threads with several turns of teflon tape when installing and don't over-tighten.

SOURCE: Radiator Fan continuously running with engine off, discharging battery

It is not the fault: for long time Renault has that concept, that is to prevent engine oveheating when coolant circulation is suddenly stopped.

Radiator fan can continue to work up to 10 minutes after engine is off. You should worry about it only if it wouldn't stop even after 10 minutes.

SOURCE: electric fan on radiator runs whenever engine is

this is either a sticking fan relay or the sensor is in the thermostat housing, try the relay 1st.

SOURCE: Both radiator cooling fans won't turn on vehicle overheats

The fans come on only when hot or the AC is on. There are many fuses that have to be good for it to work. The fan relay should have 2 pins hot with the key on, The other 2 should be ground. with the key off one should be hot and the other can then be ground the other pins that are ground one of them is the fan. the other becomes ground when the computer turns the fans on. If you don't have a pin thats hot at the relay all the time then theres a blown fuse or even the power wire from the battery at the battery

Mitsubishi Galant 2005 4dr blower fan has no power

The radiator fan will not normally have power. It is only when the engine coolant thermostat detects high temperature it sets on the fan relay which starts the fan. So it is likely the thermostat or the fan relay are faulty.

2002 Mitsubishi Galant will not start, sometimes. This just started when I got home today. Car sat for about 1 hour then wouldnt start. Engine was turning over but would not start. Waited about an hour...

Check your fluids, oil and coolant. May need to check radiator fan operation. And check for trouble codes. If the cel light came on, it should set a code that can point to the problem.

Car overheated and lost all power. how do I get it to start?

ENGINE NOT GOING TO START IF GET TOO HOT FIRST THING I WOULD REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP THEN ADD COOLANT UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL CORRECT THATS WHEN THERMOSTAT OPEN UP AND TOP HOSE HOT.CHECK FOR LEAKING RADIATOR HOSES CHECK TOP RADIATOR HOSE CHECK BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE.CHECK FOR LEAKS AROUND THE RADIATOR LOOK DOWN BELOW COOLANTS FANS CHECK FOR LEAKS AT RADIATOR CORES OR LEAKS AT THE RADIATOR PLASTIC SIDE CONTAINERS. CHECK FOR LEAKS AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE AND CHECK FOR LEAKS AT THE HEATER HOSES AROUND ENGINE BLOCK TO THE HEATER CORE HOSES. THERE IS A REASON CAR OVERHEAT.IF CAR OVERHEAT WHILE DRIVING YOU HAVE FAULTY THERMOSTAT OR LEAKING OUT COOLANT OR BLOWN HEAD GASKET.IF ENGINE OVER HEAT WHILE SITTING DURING A LONG IDLING PERIOD.YOU COULD HAVE FAULTY COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR OR FAULTY COOLING FAN FUSE OR RELAY.HOT WIRE COOLANT TO SEE IF IT RUNS IF NO REPLACE FAN MOTOR. IF YES FAN MOTOR COULD HAVE FAULTY WIRE OR PCM FAILURE. CHECK ENGINE CRANKCASE IF OIL LOOKS LIKE MILK SHAKE ENGINE HEAD GASKET LEAKING.

Car will overheat while at idle

yes the head gaskets leaking on modern aluminum head engines is all to common. never overheat them, if they start to get hot shut it down and find out why, it can of course be the fans and plugged radiators or faulty thermostats but sounds like in your case the head gasket is leaking and combustion gas is entering the cooling system and this causes an overheat

My car over heat. i have 1994 galant

first that you should check is the coolant level. It may have been caused by low coolant level. Next is the radiator fan if it is working. You can do that by removing the socket of the temperature sensor at the lower radiator hose towards the engine. The fan should turn on. If it does not it may be the relay or the fan. See if you can swap the AC fan relay (assuming the ac fan is running) and the radiator fan relay. If the fan does not turn on you may need to replace it or check the wiring. Check as well for leaks in the hose or the engine. You may just need to tighten the clamps on the hose or you may need to replace the water pump. Check as well the radiator cap as escaping steam from the system contribute to the increase in temperature.

The galant will overheat if ac is not on

The temperature sensor for the radiator cooling fan is probably bad. When you turn the AC on, it overrides the sensor and the fan runs all the time while the AC compressor is engaged.

Has it overheated lately?
My wife overheated our Galant and it just stopped working, it cranks but that's it.
I pulled the sparkplugs and found them wrapped in a gewey jelly like substance. Like an oil/antifreeze combo.
I am going to replace the entire motor for $1000 as taking it to the mechanics to theorize and practice may cost more.
