The problem is in the thermostat wiring, likely it is grounding somewhere between the thermostat and the air handler/furnace unit.

The problem is most likely in the thermostat wire between the air handler and the thermostat or even outside at the AC condenser unit. the 3-amp fuse is protecting the circuit board from burning out. I recently saw this on a furnace blowing a 5-amp fuse due to the AC compressor had the thermostat wire running through a chassis knock-out hole with no protection. The thermostat wire was grounding out to the metal chassis. I detected this by testing each thermostat wire at the furnace circuit board for resistance (Ohms to ground). Remove each wire one-at-a-time and test that wire with one meter probe while the other probe lead is grounded. If I recall correctly the Ohms on the faulty (grounded) wire was less than 5. Using Ohm's Law formula v=iR and a 24v control voltage you can see that 24/5=4.8 amps. However, the control voltage actual RMS on my meter was near 29 volts, so the fuse would definitely blow for a leak to ground with 5 Ohms resistance.

Thank you. I had discovered that it was the thermostat wire prior to reading your answer but you were exactly right. I put on a new thermostat wire and it's working great

EU 7000is. Why does it blow 3 amp fuse as soon as I turn on the key?

Hello. It seems there is a 'short' circuit in either the 'run' circuit of the ignition switch and/or in the fuse box. Positive polarity (+) is touching negative polarity (-) somewhere for to 'blow' the fuse; maybe in the device that is blowing fuses. Good luck and keep me informed; if you want to.

Ducane gas ignite furnace (FPBB050A3) keeps blowing fuse off after replacing it numerous times. The fuse got burnt as soon as power is on.

Might be a bad neutral wire or connection somewhere in the circuit. Check the power coming in if that is good then check every wire connection from there for cracks and loose wire nuts. a lot of times I found it was wires broken inside nut or nut was stripped.

My daughter has a 1998 Avenger as soon as the car starts it blows a 30 amp fuse in the engine compartment which is simply marked ENGINE. After this fuse blows the car will not even try to start the lights...

sounds like you have a short in the electrical system between the ignition and the fuse box. it might be metal to metal somewhere inbetween in the wiring that is makeing the fuse blow out everytime

3 amp fuse blows after three hours on Goodman 4 ton 16 seer pump

I would suspect you have a problem in the defrost circuit of your heat pump. there are a couple of things you can try. first just run the system on emergency heat and see what happens. you could have a defrost board that is shorting when it kicks into defrost. it sends a signal back to the furnace so it will come on during defrost. if you do not blow a fuse as long as you are running in emergency heat, i would suspect the defrost control board. also you could have a dead short in the wire that runs from the "w" terminal on furnace control board, out to the heat pump. keep in mind that any of the wires could be the cause and i am just tying to give you the most common things. your furnace will still run if you unhook all the low voltage wiring out at the heat pump. if you do this and stop blowing fuses. you know it is something on that wiring. goodl luck.
