You will need to hook up your turntable to a pre-amplifier. You can then hook the pre amp to the video inputs on the back of your MD555. You can purchase a pre amp on ebay for around $15

Hooked up a sony turntable to a sony 5.1 multi channel but there is no sound

If you have no phono inputs on the back, you will get very little to no sound. Phono inputs have a built in preamp to amplify the signal. The only option is to go to a second hand store or ham festival to see if you can find phono amplifier, runs on a 9volt battery.

Are you using the phono input on the Sony? If so, you're getting too much gain, you've already got a phono pre amp in the Behringer. Try using the tape or C.D. input. That should solve it.

When I hook up the RCA cables from the Phono to minimal volume

PHONO requires a phono-equipped receiver, which the STR-DE598 appears to NOT be. AUX will not work because it requires Line Level inout. Traditional old-school turntables put out a very tiny drastically-altered signal which needs preamplification to raise it and flatten it out for use by downstream circuitry. THAT is the job of the PHONO section in a preamp or receiver. You need to find a phono preamp or an older receiver to run the TT through. You could slave it to the STR through its AUX then.
