The most common cause of this problem I have run into with this symptom is a restricted main jet in the carburetor. ethanol fuel (oxygenated fuel) cause a corrosive build up which plugs up the jet. A quick way to determine this and eliminate the ignition, is to remove the air filter and spray a short bust of starting fluid in the opening to the carburetor. Try starting the engine. If it starts then dies it is most likely a restricted main jet. Removing the carburetor, disassembling and soaking it in carb cleaner for 24 hours should do the trick. To avoid this problem, look on the internet for Non-oxygenated fuel suppliers", There are most likely several stations in your area that carry it in one of there pumps.

Are you getting spark to the plug(s). Check with spark tester. Is fuel getting into the cylinder(s)? When it turns over, do you get a spit or backfire? If yes, check flywheel for key.

SOURCE: oil light blinking

Screw a test gage in the engine where the electric sending unit is. Check to see what the pressure is cold and after it is warmed up. It may be a bad sender.

My 2015 21hp Simplicity lawn tractor is backfiring constantly.

Could be just a carb adjustment. But being a new machine with 50 hrs you probably need the valves adjusted . New machines usually need a tweak on the settings, this is done by adjusting the valve hight and setting the timing. Ps. On all small engines use supreme (high test gas ) with no Ethel ( biofuel) added. The cheaper grades have 10 percent and down . Bio fuel attacks water and diminishes into a varnish more rapidly then expensive fuels. Since small engines usually sit longer then automotive engines the water attracting properties and faster break down of the fuel will kill an engine faster by gumming up the float bowl, and the carb. Also a good practice to add a fuel stabilizer like seafoam toward the end of the season or in periods of long storage..( 3 weeks). Hope this helps.

Why will the engine turn over but will not start

Person has to be on the seat, battery needs a good charge, fuel has to be fresh ( less that 45 days old) oil level has to be correct. If all that is good, then check that the plugs are firing. If the plugs are good and firing it should run. If no spark you may need a "ignition control box" if your model has it. or www.sears/parts will have a parts breakdown.

I have a Craftsman LT 1000 riding mower that just quit running. Won't turn over or anything. Manual suggests checking fuse as one of the options. Only problem is, I can't find the fuse! Manual says it is...

Start with the easiest thing first !
1) jump start the battery from you automobile, or install a charger for an hour. This will tell you wether you battery or connections are good.
If it started with the jump, before you replace a battery:
2) clean the cable ends and make sure cable hardware to battery posts are good and clean.
If it started with the jump, then you know the fuses are good.
If it did not start with the jump or cleaned and charged battery,
3) check the in-line fuse. Located between the key switch and the solenoid, in the wiring harness, normally behind the firewall behind the engine, or in front of the dash close to the fuel tank (if the battery is under the seat)
4) some Sears tractors use a 'relay' also located on the firewall.

Note: for now, let's see how this works. Let me know if you need further assistance. It can get more complicated, but let's keep it simple for now. rwvanlue

I’m happy to assist further over the phone at
