SOURCE: AIR LEAK ON CRAFTSMAN AIR COMPRESSOR, 3HP,25 GAL, HORIZ TANK

The needle valve that you see is the unloader which releases air pressure from the discharge line after set pressure is obtained. If air continues to leak after the compressor shuts off, the check valve installed in the tank is leaking air out of the tank. Follow the air discharge line from the compressor to the tank. There you will find a brass valve which is the check valve. Simple test is to remove the smaller airline (1/4") from the brass valve and check for air leaking. If leaking remove brass valve and check for debris under the white seat. If you cannot clean the valve, replace with generic check valve from www.grainger.com. It will cost less than factory part. Just order the valve considering the fitting sizes that you need. For exact replacement,( www.sears.com parts). If you sears model # begins with WL then your compressor is made by campbell hausfeld and parts may be ordered from www.chpower.com. Good Luck with you repair and email if you have more questions.

SOURCE: craftsman 1 gallon direct drive oil filled wont build air pressure

It sounds like you may have a broken reed on the diaphragm plate. This is located at the block. Remove the cover, and look for a cast metal assembly with fins. It will be attached to the side.

SOURCE: My 5 hp, 25 Gal. Craftsman air compressor is

It sounds like your intake valve is worn or defective. Take the head apart again and look to see if the valve is sealing properly. If you post a comment with your model number I can look up the specific parts at sears parts.

If your compressor is functioning properly, air should not come out of the intake muffler (filter)

Thanks,

Tim

Craftsman Air Comp. 6 hp oil-less, 33 gal horz. tank - sounds really loud

Some of the craftsmen compressors have pistons that are coated on the top of the dome. Once the coating wears off, they have severe loud piston slap. If you continue to run it the way it is, it will snap the connecting rod in half or break the piston and possibly the cylinder.

I have a Craftsman (919.176820) 2HP, 12 gal. compressor. I starts fine the first time, it reaches full pressure and cuts off. When the pressure drops and it tries to start again, the motor lugs and trips...

Your tank check valve is stuck/broke. It's on the tank end of the line from the pump to the tank. It is supposed to close when the pump stops to keep air in the tank and let the system bleed pressure out of the pump so the motor can start when there is pressure in the tank. The part you need is CAC-437-2 and is available through searspartsdirect.com.

Air compressor struggles to start but eventually starts

If the proplem only happens after the initial start-up with the tank empty, then your back flow valve is sticking and preventing the compressor from kicking over imediately. If it does it all the time, even when the tanik is empty, then your capacitor on the motor is not charging correctly.

1hp 4gal 2 tank Craftsman Air Compressor not Compressing

Try emptying the tanks completely. There should be a bleeder valve for each tank. Sometimes after sitting for a while with pressure, the compressor won't have enough power to start. If you get the same response with empty tanks, there is a problem with the pump pistons.
