1. Are you connected to a WiFi network when you are attempting to download the apps ?
2. If the answer to 1. is 'Yes', which application store you go to to get the apps: (a) Apple AppStore; (b)Google Play Store; or (c) Windows 8 AppStore ? The correct answer is (c), because the Vivotab Smart is an Windows 8.x tablet.
When you are using an Apple system, you can download apps from the iTunes Appstore. This works for all systems, from iPod to MAC.
You only need an account on the app store.
Most of my downloads will work via Wifi, direct into the device. Later when I connect my device to a computer with iTunes installed, the App will be downloaded to the computer to, so I can restore it, even without connection to the net.
