Best to take it to a jeweller as battery replacement if not knowing how can damage the movement. Otherwise a screw back has little notches on the side of the back and a press back is smooth. You will need a back opening knife to open.

SOURCE: NEED TO CHANGE THE BATTERY

If you don't already know what size battery you need, you can find this information on the back plate of your watch. Once you have your replacement battery, you will need to open the back of the watch to gain access to the battery compartment. Depending on the watch, the back plate will either screw off or be attached by a few small screws. If attached with screws, you will need a set of precision screwdrivers such as a jewelry or eyeglass kit. if it doesn't then look if there is a hinge where you can insert a small flat screw driver head or a small flat stick to pop the back of the watch.

Inside the battery compartment, you will see the battery is held down by a clip. Carefully remove the clip and eject the battery. Insert the new battery and replace the clip. If the battery clamp indicates you should do so, quickly press the reset button twice. Then reattach the back of the watch. If the watch display remains off after replacing the battery, press all buttons at the same time to reset the display.

How can I change the battery on a ladies Sekonda 4602AKT watch.

If it is indeed a screw type back it will have indentions ON the back (6 to 8). A special tool is required to remove the back without damage to the watch back. Any reputable jewelry store should be able to remove the back. If there are no indentions then it should be a pop back. Some watches do not have a slot to slide a pry tool under the back. You have to use a sharp knife..taking appropriate safety precautions.

How do I change a festina watch battery w no screws?

Many watches the back panel (that rest againt your wrist) pops off. Look for an indention, if you see one place a small screw driver in it and pop off the cover. Some also have nothes lining the diameter of the back plate, those are made to screw off, there are special tools to accomplish this task. You can use small tools to rotate and release the rear covers on this type of watch but you must be very caseful not to scratch or damage the watch surfaces. Most watch stores can replace the battery for you for free or really cheap.

Is the back of the Bulova 98H48 a pop up or screw on? I need to replace its battery.

are there indents going around in a circle on the back of the watch? if so it is a screw off. You need a special tool available at a jeweler to unscrew back. If it does not have those indents, then look very carefully around the outside edge for the lifting spot, use a pocketknife (carefully!) to lift!

How do you change the battery?

Most digital watches have screws holding the back on, you will have to get a mini phillips screwdriver available in most stores. Remove all four screws, inside there will be a plate over the battery this plate may come up one of two ways, a screw which will require a regular screwdriver not phillips but still very small or the other way is the small metal plate has a tab you lift up you will need a magnifier to see this tab, once you pop it up batter will slide out. The battery will probably be a lithium style battery available at most stores. NOTE: there may be more than one screw that has to be removed on battery plate and sometimes you have to remove one side of watchband to get back off!

I bought a watch and we can't get it to work. We think the battery needs to be changed.

If you take a look at the back of the watch, look for screws holding on the back plate. If there are screws (usually, if they are there there is one in each corner -- unscrew them. If there are no screws in the back of the watch, look VERY carefully at where the backing for the watch connects to the front piece of the watch. There should be a small indentation somewhere along the rim -- use a knife or a small screwdriver in that groove and pop the watch backing off.
Once you have the back of the watch off, you will see the battery right there. Sometimes they just pop out (held in by the watch back) ... sometimes there is a small piece of metal holding it in (in which case you should try to rotate the metal piece off the battery -- don't bend it).
Once the battery is out, take it to a store that sells watch batteries and match the battery type exactly (a lot of watch batteries look the same, but you need an exact match). Put the new battery in, cover it with the metal tab (if there was one) by rotating the tab back over the battery like you found it. Put the watch backing back on (and replace the screws if there were any).
Hopefully, that will kick start your watch for you, and you should be all set :-)

I have a pocket watch i bought in paris but the battery ranout and i cant get the back off to get the battery out. what should i do?

Hi Josh, I do apologize for the inconvenience. Please try the below steps which should be helpful for you to remove the back of the watch and also replace the battery.
  1. Flip over your pocket watch. Remove the back of your watch. The back of watches are either screwed on by four small Phillips head screws (unscrew them) or the watch has a press inserted back (slide a thin knife blade under the edge of the back of the watch and pry it off).
    (OR)
Find the small groove on the back of the watch right above the hinge, place the tip of the screwdriver (the small kind used for the screws in glasses) into the groove and gently pry off the back of the watch.
  2. Remove the circular watch battery out of the back of the watch.
  3. Take the battery to any department store or watch store and purchase a new replacement battery.
  4. Insert the new battery into the back of the watch.
  5. Screw on or push on the back of the watch. Set the watch to the correct time.
The above should be of help for you to have the battery on the pocket watch replaced and have the watch working once again.Best wishes for your effort and thank you for your time and patience.

I have a Caravelle Bulova watch #48G33 and I need to change the battery. I took it to a jeweler and he mess up the back and told me he did not have a battery that fit. I think he was unable to get the back...

Hey there !
if the back has a notch on the top left of the cover (right underneath to what would be 10'oclock position), it is a 'Pop-up'. But if the watch has 6-8 notches on the back plate of the watch its a screw-off.
Its really hard to say what battery size it would take due to the fact that each watch has a different operating mechanism and its hard to determine that from the model number.

How to open the back of a wrist watch to change the battery. i have two disney watches both have red m on the litle dial you use to set the time the model numbers on back of the watches are: mu1240 mu1108...

Identify first if it is a "screw on back" or a "pop off" back. Screw on backs have multiple indentions on the caseback where a special tool fits in the grooves to twist it on and off. If it is a screw type back then you will either need to buy a pricey caseback wrench or take it to a jewelry store that changes watch batteries.
A pop off back will have a smooth caseback with no indentions on it.
Most of these are "pop off" backs. to pop the back off get a very sharp blade and apply pressure at about a 30degree angle between the case and the caseback on the underside of your watch. From there you should be able to pry it and it should pop right off. Another way is to put a razorblade between the case and caseback, tap the blade with a small hammer (lightly!) and then pry the back off.

Need to change the battery and take off the steel back of the watch

This may be a threaded backplate and removing it without the proper tool may cause some damage you won't like. Most jewelers will sell and install the battery for a modest price.
