Oven stopped working while cooking a meal

We have a GE flat topped electric stove (white with black top) and bought it 11/17 last year. It is just past its year warranty by several days. The model number is JBS55WOK4WW. We had been smelling something in the back of the stove like wires smelling funny off and on the last few months. We eat out alot and have not used our stove much and so when we were cooking thanksgiving meal and had the stove and oven going, the stove just quit on us halfway through when cooking. The lights/clock do not display. There is electricty coming to the stove but the only way to get the lights and display to turn on is to turn one of the stove knobs; otherwise the panel board is totally dark and doesnt display anything. When we turn one of the stove knobs all of the lights on the display light up. However, the stove wont heat up every time we turn on the stove knob to boil or cook something on top of the stove. We cant get the oven to work either unless we turn the stove knob on first and then it lights up the panel board and then we can press the oven button but the oven doesnt heat up. We are worried what is causing this and how much it could take to repair it. Thank you for any help you can give us.

When replacing a knob on our frigidaire glass top stove, my husband unscrewed the control panel to insert the new knob. When he reassembled it, the control panel is all lit up, but the touch controls don't work. The oven light is on, but the controls nor oven work. Stove top works fine.

It sounds like it burnt one of your main wires in the back of range. by turning a knob on you are getting a feed back. turn the power off remove back panel take a visual check of your wiring.

While cooking on my GE electric oven today I spilled water over the stove top by accident, now the iginite pilot wont stop sparking, what can I do to fix it? other than unplugging the oven as a quick...

If it's just water, unplug it for a couple of days and turn the switch back and forth a few times during these couple of days. The water should evaporate and your cooktop should start working again. If this did not help - one of the burner switches (or assembly with all switches and wiring, depending on model) will need replacement

Our frigidaire flat-top electric stove stopped working

Sound like you make have a loose neutral on the cord where it attaches to the range or in the electrical receptacle where it plugs in, you can check the cord by pulling the range out, remove the small access cover to the cord connection area, after you have unplugged it and just tightened all the nuts to all connections on the cord. I advise an electrician to check the receptacle. I hope this has helped you. Have a great new year.

Have a GE Electric Cook Top oven with digital

Unplug the stove. plug back in and program a short clean cycle. If this does not fix it is eithe the selector switch or the electronic control. Verifying the switch contacts with a meter is the only way to be sure.

Digital screen goes off oven will not work stove top is working fine

The "digital screen" is connected to the electronic control board which controls the oven (the surface elements on the stove top will not be affected by this problem). The "flickering on and off" could be any connection that feeds the electrical supply of the control board. Like something in the wiring harness that feeds the relay board, or the wiring harness that goes from the relay board to the electronic control board. It could also be the relay board or the electronic control board themselves. To isolate the problem you would need to check electrical supply to each board at the time of the "problem" when the "digital screen goes completely off." This would tell you where you "have" the voltage and where the voltage supply is lost. If it is a loose or burned wiring harness replace the harness or individual wire causing the problem if it turns out that it is the relay control board or electronic control board replace them. The relay control boards are typically around $75.00 and the electronic control board $150.00 and up. Might be cheaper to purchase another used oven or bite the bullet and buy a new range.
