I went to the Salter website and I could not find that model number.

However, looking at the other models they had there should be a door on the bottom of the scale. It looks like a release tab that you push in then lift up on. Give that a try.

1.
Open the battery compartment on the scale underside.
2.
Remove isolating tab from beneath the battery (if fitted) or insert batteries OBSERVING the polarity signs (+ and -) inside the battery compartment.
3.Close the battery compartment.
4. Select kg, st or lb weight mode by the switch on the
underside of the scale.
5.For use on carpet attach enclosed carpet feet.
6.Position scale on a firm flat surface. next......
INITIALISING YOUR SCALE
1. Press the platform centre and remove your foot.
2.'0.0' will be displayed.
3.The scale will switch off and is now ready for use.
This initialisation process MUST be repeated if the scale is moved. ie battery replacement.

Is it possible you put the batteries in the wrong way? Sometimes a device will still have power in that situation, even though it won't work as expected. Try a new set of batteries, but clean the contacts in the battery compartment first, and double-check the battery orientation.

I have a Salton 2006. When I replaced the battery and pushed the on button a small icon with + and - above and below it flashed in the upper left corner. What does this mean?

Salter Housewares model 6055 kitchen scale, how do I replace the batteries in that? I don't know how to get the little box open that the batteries are in.

You will see two things on each side that look like tabs. That is actually a drawer that goes all the way through from one side to the other. If you push on one side, the drawer will slide out the other side, exposing the batteries.

This sounds very typical of kitchen and postal scales. I know you don't want to hear this, but this basically means it is time to replace your scale with a better scale - perhaps no longer giving Salter your business..

Can't open battery case

The middle part slides out. You'll need a small knife or a screwdriver to pry it out gently.

There are openings on two sides. One side has a larger opening than the other. Make sure you pry it out of the lager opening.

Once you gently slide it out, you'll see the two batteries. Make sure the positive side is facing up when you put them back in.
