This sounds like a defective driver problem with the print server. reinstall the driver. If this does not solve the problem then contact D-Link support for further advice.

SOURCE: Printer eventually loses connection...

Try to upgrade the firmware revision to the last one (1.21).
I had similar problem with the dpr-1260 firmware rev 1.00.
Now after the firmware upgrade the problem seems solved

SOURCE: DPR-1260 ... prints but cannot access web config page

To get into the web configuration you need to know your firmware on the DPR-1260. If it is 1.12, us http://dlinkps-xxxxxx where the X's are the last 6 number of the mac address. If it is 1.20 and up, use http://dlink-xxxxxx, where the x's are the last 6 number of the mac address. If you do set it up as DHCP or static and know the ip address of the print server just type in the ip address of the print server on the address bar.

SOURCE: hp 1020 dp-300u

I have one of theses D-Link PD-301U. It does NOT support a printer like yours. According to D-Link's Web site, here are the HP Laser printers it supports (note the P1020 is NOT in the list):

LaserJet

  • 1500 (USB 2.0)
  • 2200

    What is a printer spooler

A software program responsible for managing all print jobs currently being sent to the computer printer or print server. The print spooler program may allow a user to delete a print job being processed or otherwise manage the print jobs currently waiting to be printed.

    Failed response from plugin device

    Dirty fix...
When the printer errors out...stop, unplug the power to the printserver. Reset the printer, Clear the print que (delete jobs/restart print spooling service), restart the printserver software and plug the printserver power back in. Wait for the re-detect. Everthing should be good at this point. Unfortunatly the print job will be lost and you need to print again...BUT, NO REBOOT yea!!!
Note... for me, if this sequence is not followed, I will have to reboot. The printserver will be locked for the PC that was trying to print. All other PC's will be fine, and I have no idea why.
    Good luck,
    Bill

    DLink DPR 1260 lost connection

Are the small printer icons lit up on the face of the PServer? Mine has recently started losing connectivity and simply unplugging the power and plugging it back in restores full function. Still looking for the reason it just started doing it though..

    Cannot print on shared printer

I had the same problem with HP 1018 printer, when I had two computers connected to a domain and had Windows XP SP3 on them and when I shared the printer on one of them - I could only print from the network if the user belonged to the Local Administrators group on the host/server computer. Once the network user is removed from Administrators - the print jobs are stuck in print queue. I used the "HP LaserJet Host Based Print Driver Package" that is on HP web site for HP laserjet 1018 printer.
Then I tried to use a different driver for that printer and was successful with driver for HP LaserJet 1020. After forcing that printer to use the 1020 drivers, the regular users were able to print to that printer.

    Connecting this print server

Without knowing more information, I can't give you exact instructions...however, in order to make the print server truly functional, it needs a dedicated IP address. Look through the settings on the print server interface (GUI) and see if you can assign it a local IP address (192.168.xxx.xxx, depending on your LAN setup).

Once you give it a dedicated IP address, you should be able to route print jobs through it.

Hope this helps - remember to rate :)

Not printing to network attached printer

I have a DLink DPR-1260, and found the configuration to be challenging too. First of all, has it ever worked? If not, you may need to check your router config to ensure that they are both on the same subnet. Typically they come set to 192.168.x.x... if the router is set to 192.168.1.1, the print server is set to 192.168.0.10, and your subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.0... it'll never connect. Make sure that the router and print server are configured to the same subnet... 192.168.1.x for example... and then try it. Let us know if that doesn't resolve your issue, and we'll keep working with you.
