Hi thembi.
Go to My Computer and under Devices with Removable Storage look for your cardreader; right-click on it and click Properties. In the pop-up box, sometimes there's an option to Remove write-protection. Change the status of this option and try again. Remove your memory stick from the drive.

First try to see is there any lock in your usb pen drive and see if its
not locking the pen drive, because some pen drives comes with that
option to protect usb .it looks like slide switch .for one end it will
lock the media and when you switch to other side you have the full
access
but if that's not the reason it might be the problem with registry

Two possibilities.
1. The firmware on your PSP is too old to recognise the 8GB (only recognises up to 4GB).
2. If firmware is up to date you have a fake memory stick (easy way to check is to check the info for the memory stick on your PSP if its says that MAGIC GATE is unknown rather than supported then it is fake.
The fake ones typically double compress the data so that it appears to have 8GB when in reality it does not.
SOURCE: Remove Write Protection
Try this,
1.
Check out if the USB drive has a small swich for write protection. If its there try toggling the switch.
2.
Windows can all write protect flash drives. Check out this registry path,
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies.
You may find a key here on the right side by the name 'WriteProtect'. If it's not there this would not be the cause of problem. If it's there, make sure that the value is 0.
Please let me know if this does'nt work.

Problem is caused by NTFS partition on Vista.
Remove drive then reinsert or insert right after full boot.
Back up data, reformat in fat then copy data back.

You should have a small notch on the memory chip itself you just need to switch that off. look closely cos this might be very small.
You may also try power resetting the Camera. Power resetting can be done by removing the batteries from the Camera and then press and hold the POWER BUTTON of the Camera for 15 seconds and then reinsert the batteries after 1 minute.
If the issue persists, service may be required.
Thanks,

There may be a mechanical switch on your memory stick / in one position it will allow you to read or write ; in the other, read-only. These are typically small slider buttons that have two positions. Change it from the current position and try again.
