My memory stick is showing write protected, how do i remove it, does not even wamt to format

  • andrewcahoon Nov 21, 2017

There may be a mechanical switch on your memory stick / in one position it will allow you to read or write ; in the other, read-only. These are typically small slider buttons that have two positions. Change it from the current position and try again.

Hi thembi.
Go to My Computer and under Devices with Removable Storage look for your cardreader; right-click on it and click Properties. In the pop-up box, sometimes there's an option to Remove write-protection. Change the status of this option and try again. Remove your memory stick from the drive.

SOURCE: write protected

First try to see is there any lock in your usb pen drive and see if its not locking the pen drive, because some pen drives comes with that option to protect usb .it looks like slide switch .for one end it will lock the media and when you switch to other side you have the full access
but if that's not the reason it might be the problem with registry

Use the Registry Hack to Disable Writing to USB Drives
Here is the link .just download the zip folder and after opening the folder you will find a file just double click on it..

SOURCE: Memory Stick Pro Duo 8GB on PsP

Two possibilities.
1. The firmware on your PSP is too old to recognise the 8GB (only recognises up to 4GB).
2. If firmware is up to date you have a fake memory stick (easy way to check is to check the info for the memory stick on your PSP if its says that MAGIC GATE is unknown rather than supported then it is fake.

The fake ones typically double compress the data so that it appears to have 8GB when in reality it does not.

SOURCE: Remove Write Protection

Try this,
1.
Check out if the USB drive has a small swich for write protection. If its there try toggling the switch.

2.
Windows can all write protect flash drives. Check out this registry path,

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies.

You may find a key here on the right side by the name 'WriteProtect'. If it's not there this would not be the cause of problem. If it's there, make sure that the value is 0.

Please let me know if this does'nt work.

SOURCE: REMOVE WRITE PROTECTION FROM EXTERNAL DRIVE

Problem is caused by NTFS partition on Vista.
Remove drive then reinsert or insert right after full boot.
Back up data, reformat in fat then copy data back.

SOURCE: PSP Sony memory stick has write protection how do I remove this

You should have a small notch on the memory chip itself you just need to switch that off. look closely cos this might be very small.

Not Able to Transfer Photos

To get things clear for me, some questions. Do you use a Memory Stick Duo? As you know you can't use a Memory stick in your camera.
Can you see any picture you shot, on the display of the camera?
Did you protect the pictures in the memory and then did a format?
Because format will not look to any software protection, you really lost all pictures.

If so, there are some programmes, that could possibly restore your pictures, if you did nothing more than formatting the memory card.

I cant format my microsd because of write sector error

hi
make sure your card reader is not locked. Most card readers have facilities to lock a memory stick. If left in that position, they write protect the memory stick. Meaning you can neither transfer to it nor change and sometimes remove stuffs from the memory stick. Insert the memory stick into another card reader and try formating again or check the memory card itself if the write protect feature is part of its structure. Usually there's a hint of that in form of tiny diagrams and signs of how to lock and unlock the memory stick. hope this helps

My camera is showing fomat error what do i do?

Format error message is shown when an unformatted Memory Stick Duo is inserted or when the internal memory is experiencing some problems. The only solution is to format your internal memory or memory card. Please note that formatting the internal memory or memory card irrevocably erases all data, including even protected images.

Hope you are satisfied with my solution. Thanks for choosing Fixya.

Hi I have a sony cyber shot camera when i tried to ON it The memory stick error appears saying " INSERT MEMERY STICK" inspite of memery stick is inserted also i get this error. And when i tried to format it...

Hi,

The Reinsert Memory Stick error message appears when the inserted Memory Stick is corrupted or not in a correct Format. This issue can be resolved by trying the steps mentioned below:
  • Remove and re-insert the Memory Stick in the Camera.
  • Check if the inserted Memory Stick is compatible with the Camera.
  • Format the Memory Stick in the Camera. Do not Format the Memory Stick in the Computer, as this will damage the Memory Stick being used in the Camera. The Camera will not detect the Memory Stick again, if it is formatted in the Camera.
  • Clean the terminals of the Memory Stick by using a soft dry cloth.
  • Remove the Memory Stick from the Camera and check if the Internal Memory is working fine.

You may also try power resetting the Camera. Power resetting can be done by removing the batteries from the Camera and then press and hold the POWER BUTTON of the Camera for 15 seconds and then reinsert the batteries after 1 minute.

If the issue persists, service may be required.

Thanks,

KenSolutions

I used Windows to format 4gb memory stick PRODuo, now what?

your 4gb drive has definately a partition virus.
i recommend u to use net protector a virus removal software to tackle this problem
may be demo version will not remove the virus but clean any malware and inform you about the virus.no other software may help as this 4 gb has a partition virus and there is an unseen partition (hidden one) on the drive... which the net protector will delete.

128mb Sony Memory Stick Duo

Hi there,
This is a common problem and its quite easy to resolve.

I had a very similar problem with a friends nokia 5200 memory stick , it refused access to the card , i got the message disk is write protected I couldnt even access it from a PC card reader or format it .
Somehow he had accidentally set a security code for the memory stick and the mobile then forgot he had done it , I tried the usual code of 1,2,3,4 and this didnt work.
When I tried the number 1 on its own , suddenly I could access the memory stick again and format it and didnt get the message (disk is write protected)...Reset your P800 security codes with the master reset function in the main settings menu. This will remove any codes that restrict access to the memory stick...
